1962 Bambi

I purchased mine right before the summer. I have been busy restoring it and it is gutted right now. The VIN # is 162T483. The title says 1968 which or course is a mistake. I did some research and found out that it is a 1962. I am in Austin TX and bought it north of Fort Worth, TX. Can anyone confirm this is indeed a 1962?

We bought our Bambi in 2009, it'sVIN is TSS1942 6301 ( Jan of 63). Since we brought it home it's been rebuilt from axles to fantastic fan. Pulls great. We have traveled over 7000 miles with it (5000 this summer alone).

Bday Bash Bambi

So we pull up to the cg office for the 2013 TAC Bday Bash and sitting out front is a '62 Bambi with a 'for sale' sign in the window. We stroll over and do the walk-around-through and decide we have to have it. Only to learn Mossback Doug had already placed a obo on it. We bested him slightly and he let us have it. The VIN is...162T478. we look forward to the project and the design wars have begun. we towed it 60 miles on sat for it's first time in 28 years to penn wood airstream park. towed like a bambi...i mean dream.

ok the real number is 16 td ss 1601.....that is in the shiny part. Below is a "1 61"
I presume it means Jan of 1961, I presume ss stands for Santa Fe Springs. Do I win the jackpot? Had no idea it was that special when I bought it.

I'm still new to some of the terminology, so I'll give you what I think you may be asking :-)

Fresh water holding tank is first pic
Black water is mounted under the toilet in second pic and actually extends to the right for about 18"
Grey water was never included back in that day.

Hope this helps!

We have a 1963 s/n 163 T 157. Hauled it out of Mississippi April of 2012. He was shot to hell with abuse and PO's attempt to remodel. Still very cute and tows great. There are five of us and very very very cozy.

Ragin is completely correct...good job. One additional comment about the fresh water tank, its made of aluminum and is meant to be pressurized by use of the Schrader valve on the outside of the fill tube so once the tank is filled with water, it will push the water out through the faucets.

Brad, do you have any pics or more description of where the Schrader valve was? Front of my unit, curbside, I have a regular water valve that I assume is a fill point, and under the belly pan is another valve for a drain. Can't figure out where the other valve went. (I've not used the freshwater tank yet. That's a project for another day)

My Schrader valve is on the outside of the fill tube about 2 inches down from the screw on cap to the fill tube. It's like the air valve on your car tires where you'd pump in air from a foot pump or a compressor. Hope this helps.

Tim, Brad, or any others...

If you get a chance to post a close up of your water input and Schrader valve, I'd like to see it. From the description and after examining mine, I'm learning that some PO has modified it. :-(

Thanks in advance.

Howdy all -

California 61 Bambi 16TDSS1786 Manufactured in May 1961. Wasn't titled until the following year, so title calls it a 1962.

Hi All,

Just joined the club with a '63 Bambi here in sunny Cornwall in the far South West of England!

Ours is a beautiful Ohio van, in need of some TLC, and her number is 163T141. Sold originally by Liebzeit Mobile Homes of Appleton, Wisconsin.
