Question Wiper Woes

My wiper blades on my 1990 LY will not store in the middle of the windshield. I believe that they were a week ago. But on my last outing, they store to the sides opposite of the middle.

They get in my field of vision.

Are the blades supposed to store in the middle position? Next to the windshield divider?

If so, what can I do to correct this problem?

What are you doing to that poor thing? Did you get your air bags straightened out?

Go to Cleveland ignition, click on troubleshooting, there is a section on how to troubleshoot if the arms don't park in the correct position, mainly mechanical like stripped arms or loose hold down nuts. If you click on 'Information on Parts' it has a drawing of the system.

Troubleshooting

Bags are working properly now. Ordered 7 dollar part from AS.

The bag is slowly leaking down though, but the compressor holds the system at about 110 pounds.

The wiper blades are the same on both sides which leads me to believe it not loose nut.

I cant help but think the main drive has slipped or jumped position.
I will check the site you provided and troubleshoot some more.
Thanks,
Smily

....just wondering

Smily:

The older than yours "Classic" MH's on the P-3? chassis had independent wiper motors.

Is your LY set up with one, or two wiper motors?

Wiper correction

You were correct in stating that the nut on the drive motor was loose.

I adjusted wiper arms to desired position and tighten nut.

I will be testing them today. I wonder why the drive motor is not cammed?. It does appear to have splines but they are not very deep.

it would seem that they would design the arms so they would only go on one way.

There is only one motor on my 1990 LY P-30 Chassis.

They are used on too many applications, sort of a universal setup.
