Funny seeing this thread I posted here (as Fangthorpe) 7 years later going again. No, I didn't put a Whipple on. I had a couple more gos with their excellent tech guys and they talked me out of it. I don't remember exactly why, but they weren't in favor. I think they were into intercoolers at that point and didn't have one for the 454. The 5.3 ran great without one, but all the later kits had one.
What I DID do was get Ed at EB Racing in Lancaster to build me a monster 454 tow engine that makes more HP and torque than the 502 I was looking at....and runs on regular. He has a chassis dyno that will take a motorhome. You had to be there. I tow the 10,000# race trailer over the Grapevine a couple times a year. Without the trailer the AS is a hotrod, and the fuel consumption doesn't seem to have changed at all. There's a roller cam, ported heads and bigger, higher pressure fuel injectors, headers and a cold air intake. I'm happy with it, but for the cost, I could have tried the Whipple. Maybe next time.
