The thermostat should be located in the thermostat housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose.

It is available in 160, 180, and 195 degree temperatures.
Which one you need depends on what application it is needed for.

Pull the old one out and see what it says. Typically, a non fuel injected engine would use a 180 degree thermostat. Pollution control required higher water temperatures to work well. Pull the old one out and it should have the temperature in degrees F that it is designed to open at. Stant makes a good thermostat. Any online autoparts dealer in the US should be able to get you one.

In the USA all you do is tell them the year it was built and the engine size and what temperature you want and they just bring you one. I am sure you can order from places like.

Motor of my excella does't rise in temp. . Normally, on road , the gauge is about 120°/140°. In hard road (mountain road ) maximum is 160°...

And the heating is ridiculous !

The thermostat is a 160° . Is it normal for a tempered country ?

Or gauge is false ? Where is the water temp sensor ? How can I test it ?

Thank you

The temp sensor is the thermostat on something this old. You might try a hand held IR thermometer aimed at the radiator. A thermocouple and remote gauge would be ideal.

Most factory gages are indicator only and are not accurate. They give you a relative indication. You can calibrate it with some sort of temperature gage. Even a bulb thermometer stuck into the radiator cap opening will work. Make sure you don't scald yourself though when removing the radiator cap.

For what it's worth, the owner's manual for our 310 states that the normal range for engine operating temperature is 190-240 degrees fahrenheit.

Yes, it is more normal temp for a engine than 160 ! Why can we find 160° thermostat ???, it is very low !

Ok, I have replaced the sensor and the thermostat with a 180° : the gauge rise now to 195°/200° after 10 mn . It's better !
But with this temp. the heater doesn't produce hot air ??? The hoses are cold. Is there a command valve for open the heater circuit (where) ? Thanks

Ive seen people who will bypass their heater core if a problem had developed with the core. Look at the hoses under the hood where they enter the heater core. Make sure a previous owner didnt cut the hoses before the heater core and loop them together. Ive seen this done on many vehicles where rather than fix the problem with the core they simply take it out of service by bypassing it. If thats not the case then make sure your cable that opens and closes the small valve on the inlet side of your heater core is operating properly. Those cables can break, come loose, come unanchored, etc etc etc. check the other end of the control cable also, behind the dash. Make sure its connected properly. Then check the small valve on the inlet hose to the heater core. Make sure it is moving freely to open and close letting the warm coolant circulate through the heater core.

Yes mayco, it was a problem of cable, the valve was rusted and blocked and the câble broken into the sheath.... A little bit of patience and a lot of wd40 and it is ok I am discovering my old AS and sometime it's a great adventure !

Many times those valves can be eliminated. Some are only closed when the panel is set to max ac. Had this problem in my truck. Makes the ac work a little better but not worth the trouble.
