What's wrong with this picture?

Several years ago I volunteered to stop and look at an Argosy motorhome that had broken down near St. Louis and the owners were looking to sell it. I took several dozen photos and forwarded them on to the prospective buyer.

This morning I was looking through the pictures as I was looking for an example of how something was put together on the motorhome. Since I'm also in the middle of replacing the spark plug cables on my Argosy I glanced at the picture I took of the engine.

I'm by no means a Chevy expert but I'm pretty sure there's something wrong in this picture. Can anyone else spot what I think I've seen?

Well, it did have a minor vibration.....

I'm not sure its 12345678, but it is definitely firing all cylinders on one side and then all cylinders on the other.

So I'm not losing my mind!

I looked at that picture and finally compared it to a few other pictures that I have of other motorhome engines and figured it can't possibly be connected properly. I can't remember whether it was the engine or transmission that finally failed but after looking at the picture I'm betting it was the engine.

Minor vibration might be putting it mildly!

Thanks for confirming my suspisions

Brad

It's called a "Corrected Design" cap. The circuits from rotor tip to the plug wire connector cross over internally. The idea was for a cleaner plug wire installation. Doesn't work too well for daily drivers, might be okay for show cars that don't get driven much.

Tonight I'm going to try and find the rest of the pictures that I took to see if I have any better views. I typically take lots of pictures from all angles so who knows.

I can't believe it made it cross country on the wrong firing order but stranger things have happened.

Interesting concept but from reading the reviews it sounds like it was a real POS which probably explains why it's not available for sale right now

It seems ACCEL still make corrected caps.

Cheers

I have this same type of cap on my orange "47 Chevy and Lynn's '37 Buick They are black Crossfire, not a red Accel. Makes things nice and clean as well as easy to wire. Don't know if they are available for other makes.

There's nothing wrong with the wiring. It's just the pistons are numbered incorrectly.

It can't be wrong firing order..you would not have made it cross country without a lot of misfires. I crossed two wires on my GM 350. The misfire was terrible, and one garage said it was blown head gasket. GM service manager picked it up right away and showed me where if it is a GM engine the firing order is embossed on the top of the engine.

I know, I know, you just "pulled the trigger". How I hate that phrase. "buy" is such a better term.
