Tips for putting damper on engine

I am at the stage where I need to put the damper back on the engine. Was wondering if any one has any tips on how to install it ?I don't want to mess it up.
Thanks for the help.
Jo

It goes on the front of the crankshaft to help reduce vibration. The crankshaft pulley is generally bolted to it for the V belts to drive the alternator, power steering, etc.

You can damage the pulley easy... ask me how I know..
Normally in the puller kit you used to get it off,, there is a "Putteronner" threaded thingy...
I will take a photo of my kit, and post it for future reference!

I also wanted to know what this was...yes I remember them, just not what I first though of.
If you use a longer threaded rod, you can pull it on.
Just be sure to use a threaded rod and a nut, and not a bolt.
You don't want to use the crankshaft threads to do the pulling, just the holding.

Thanks a pic of the putteronner would be good for future reference. Did not have the whole kit just the puller.
I also have had issues with dampers before one came apart and one wobbled out the key way on the crankshaft.
ruined a really nice 327 engine.

That would be a harmonic balancer...not damper...or even dampener.

I have a similar kit to Keyair. Used it alot on as buildin chevy V8 racing engines. Works very well and prevents damage to the crank and damper, and at $500+ for a racing damper and $1000+ for cranks..you sure don't want to use a large hammer!

That is a very nice kit if I ever have to do this again I will look for one . Hopefully never have to do again. Things have changed a lot since last did any kind of engine work. Really like the new gaskets they have.
