I know some manufacturers have this built in to their software.
In the days I had vehicles by a British manufacturer, the OBD software triggered a "Service engine" light every 52,500 miles. It went on like clockwork.
There was a little "black box" under the dash where 2 pins were shorted to reset the light.
Perhaps this is the case here? I believe there is a profound difference between service engine and check engine.
Did you have the scan done with a generic code reader or the GM scan tool?
Generely speaking the DIY type readers only display faults when there is a hard fault present.
Better commercial scanners will read sporadic faults but early OBD systems often won't display freeze frame data on a sporadic code.
The dealer specific and high end pro versions will read just about everything.
If you only have access to a DIY tool carry it with you and scan for the codes when the MIL is on.
On our Tacoma, we get a service engine light warming that flashes when we are 500 miles from a scheduled maintenance...if eventually turns solid and remains lit until we have the service done and it's reset. Look at your owner's manual to determine what the light means...or have the code read at a Checker or other auto store.

OBD2 is a nice idea but not exactly the end-all. There are lots of systems in a modern vehicle that can impact that check engine light (MIL). Not all show up in OBD2. Find a mechanic with a real scan tool and the knowledge to use it.....

Well finally got my problem solved.
First, fuel filter was badly pluged, its a pitch to put it in, muffler sit right in fron of the inside rail.
Second, spark plugs, they where real bad burned (Denso Plugs) 45,000 miles.
Now its passing all the Big Rigs on the road again
