My 91 350LE has been running warm so I decided to restore the cooling system. I pulled the radiator and sent it out for rebuild. I plan on new hoses, belts, fan clutch, thermostat, and water pump. I noticed when I got to the belts that the a/c belt rubbed the water pump and now that I have the new GM water pump installed I can see that the belt rubs this water pump at the lower outlet as well. Any ideas? The pulleys all line up perfect so I don't think shimming that water pump pulley is the right thing to do. I may try to grind off some material where the belt fouls but I am worried I would grind through.

Yes, thanks. I have read that post and I pm'd the op about his solution and he said he shimmed the w/p pulley and that helped so far. I think that's a good idea but I will need to shim the alternator and the crank pulley along with the p/s pump pulley as well since they all line up now and you can't shim one without doing the others. I wonder if there is a water pump available with a relief cut into it for the belt. I see a bracket that may have had a air pump that might have been delegated and this is how the PO re routed the belts. I need to figure this out soon because I have a trip planed for July 17.

I found the solution to the belt rubbing problem. The belts were on in the wrong order. I don't know why I didn't see this. I guess I just couldn't see the forest for the trees.

I did start shimming the pulleys to let the belt clear the pump. You can't really just shim one you have to shim all so they line up. I shimmed the the crank and water pump pulley and the belt just cleared. Then I thought why didn't GM just put this belt in the second grove so it would miss the pump and then it hit me. I felt dumb and happy at the same time.
