Mud flap source

I've been poking around online looking for mud flaps for my Argosy without any real luck.

Anyone know of a source for truck mud flaps that will fit our motorhomes?

On a related note I was crawling around underneath Peanut this weekend and noticed the propane tank is right behind the right rear wheel. Peanut doesn't have any mud flaps either and thinking about it, it seems like a pretty dangerous situation to have a propane tank in that location with no protection

I think I'm going to recommend to Martin before he drives Peanut anywhere that mud flaps should be installed!

When I bought my 75 26ft Argosy it had no mud flaps and the propane tank was in the same place. Before I could get the propane system cert I had to replace all of the copper propane lines. They were almost collapsed flat from the stones coming off the tires.

I went to the truck wreckers and got some rubber mud flaps off heavy trucks. I got some that had no logos on them.Just make sure they are not to heavy there was 2 styles.One is a real thick rubber and the other is thinner and lighter.

Get the lighter ones some times you can get 2 flaps from 1 big one. Just make a cardboard temp. Sometimes they will give the flaps to you.

I had to make 2 rear flaps for my 32.5 you just need a sharp razor knife

Try the folks at www.duraflap.com. They can probably make whatever you want.

Just an idea but why couldn't the 'flap' be part of a complete inner wheel well and wrap right around?

I'm thinking the propane lines need to be looked at on Peanut as well. A cursory check shows the lines to be loose in places which worries me a bit.

Unfortunately for me there are no salvage yards anywhere near close to me that are worth looking through. Good salvage yards are one something I miss living in this area of Kentucky. If they are around here they've stayed well hidden!

Martin, I can't quite picture what you're describing.

The back wall of the Airstream motorhome wheel wells are flat with holes for mounting mud flaps. The originals were basically flat sheets of rubber like John described with the word AIRSTREAM embossed on them.

All of the line clamps on my Argosy were all loose to I had to redo all of the lines and clamps in the area ahead of the tank and I also had to replace the regulator.

How many flaps do you need I can check the truck wreckers where I got mine to see if he has any.

I have the front mud flaps from the 345 but still looking for the rears.

I found these Mud Flaps on Amazon. They might need to be cut down but the price isn't to bad.

Not sure how practical it is but was think something like this.

Attach at the front and back vertical edge but creates a loop from front over the tire to the back and carries on to be the flap - almost to act as an inner wheel well.

Ok, I see what you're getting at.

It would need to be somewhat rigid to hold the arch properly and I'm not sure you would want rigid mud flaps. The existing wheel well housings are ABS plastic and covering the inside of the wheel wells with an arched panel certainly couldn't hurt matters in that area.

Before proceeding with mud flaps for the front tires, a word of caution.
I too wanted to install mud flaps on the front tires. Seemed strange that A/S put these on the rear wheels but not on the front wheels. But there was a reason for this.

I have a 2005 LY 30. Somewhere I have read that you do not want to interfere with the air flow from the front grill and along the sides of the motor thru the wheel wells, etc. This is part of the cooling system for the engine, tranny, etc. May not apply to your units but for the later LY, mud flaps were a no-no.

So my mud flaps are on hold. What you could do instead is install protective rubber hose over the propane lines. I had done this for my previous trailers to protect those lines. I understand that this is standard procedure on the new trailers.

Woody, I can't confirm or deny that cooling theory.

I do know on my little 20' Argosy the propane tank is right behind the right front wheel so in my case I wouldn't feel comfortable not not having a mud flap in that location.

I do know in 1986 the 345s came with front mud flaps. They don't stick down as far as the rears so maybe that was a concession for cooling?
