last nite, the way I got it home was
I poured fuel from a small hand held container directly into the carb' it started but would not continue to run. I slowly poured 16 oz. of fuel into the carb to keep it running for a minute or two. Then it started to idle. I slammed it into gear and was able to make it 3/4 of a mile to the vinyard. Just as I was parking it died again. This morning no start. Tried the manual assist fuel delivery, it would start but not continue to run. Now I'll mess with it tomorrow. maybe something finally broke, that is easier to find than some intermittant problem.
Terry, thanks for the info about the Carter pump, I was looking at fawcets (sp). Would you advise keeping the mechanical pump and adding the electrical back at the tank? Thanks.

electric pumps like to push fuel so... to the rear it should go.

guy- thanks for the pressure switch info. I was planning on just adding a toggle switch on the control panel, like for the boost pump in some aircraft.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I have had a growth of some sort in my tanks for our off road deisel, it turned the filters black and showed up when you put a load on the tractor. We treated the tanks and the holding tanks, changed all the filters and we were free of the problem for about a year. then it all started again

That should work. I guess the advantage of the pressure switch is that it would shut off the fuel if the driver couldn't.

That's common on the fishing boats up here. I had the same problem after
the mo/ho sat all winter with a 1/4 tank of fuel. The answer is to keep the
tank topped up and, oh ya, keeping moving! I think that's what trashed my pressure regulator.

Fuel pressure at the float needs to be 5 to 7 PSI. Not is not negotiable.

How you get it is.

1 bypass the existing stock pump with a pump back by the tank.

2 same scenario except a big pump by the tank and a regulator by the carb.

3 Pony pump (electric ) by the tank to the stock pump then to the carb.

You get what I am saying. Just make sure you have a filter before an electric pump, besides the one by the carb. If you pull debri into the electric pump you will ruin it.
Good Luck
