Kohler generator fuel filter

According to my manual, my Kohler gen set has only a metal screen fuel filter. I am getting some rough running and shutting down lately. Brett suspects a clogged fuel filter. Since I have had fuel filter issues with the main engine, that's probably a good hunch!

Once I clean out the screen filter, I would like to install an in-line filter. Should I do this in the gen set compartment or is that not a good idea? The line comes in from near the top and I think I can keep the line away from the hot running engine.

Get one of those glass inline filters, they come for 3/8" and 1/4" lines. Adding the inline filter will give you even more room for fuel line routing. I kinda doubt that your troubles are in the fuel filter, since the pick up for the genset fuel is way above the bottom of the tank.

I had posted before on this.. my Onan runs well, but stalled when rounding curves on a recent trip. I am headed to NAPA this weekend for a new fuel filter, hope that is the trick. The plugs and all look good, and I have cleaned the carb on it.
