Our kohler 7000 fuel shutoff does not shut the fuel supply off quickly when the stop switch is applied. The result is running on of the generator has anyone else had this problem and what will fix the problem.
Thanks
Ray
Doesn't shut the fuel off quickly or the generator doesn't stop quickly? I have an Onan, it grounds the ignition in stop and shuts off 12v electrical to the generator (ignition, fuel pump) in off. It takes a few seconds to stop, the whole rotating mass of the generator has to coast down. If it takes 4 or 5 seconds to do this it is probably OK.
The Kohler 7000 has a shutdown solenoid (sp?) device that closes the carb. My 7000 has had that problem since I bought the MH a year ago. I sprayed a little WD-40 on the shut-down mechanism and it works much better.
With the generator cold, use the manual switch on the generator itself and switch it to STOP a few times. You will see the mechanism pull back. Hit that with some WD-40 and see if it helps. It may need some adjustment (there are several on that mechanism). If it doesn't pull back at all, the shutdown solenoid needs replacing.
Fred,
I tried your suggestion and applied some liquid film to the solenoid shaft and it seems to have fix the problem.
for your information the new part is still available from kohler for a cost of $140.00 for the solenoid only.
Boy, I sure hope Peter reads that! I actually helped someone with a technical problem! I am delighted that I could finally contribute to the community!
