Unplug the coil lead providing 12 volts to it.

pulled the breaker disconnected the battery, problem is how do I fix the switch assy. Dealer item? Anyone done this before?oh it's my TV 93 burb and I need to tow something tomorrow!

Not to ask the obvious here, Your steering wheel isn't locked against the lock cylindar? Try moving the wheel as you turn the key.

If it isn't the lock, and I've seen a couple that weren't, there are two pot-metal pieces that can break and cause this. Hope that isn't what it is, they are a pain. They are the rack and pinion that the lock cylinder turns to actuate the switch rod.

tried all that stuff, rig shut down till daylight. But I gotta get it going . I'm trying to guess what is involved with replacing the key switch assy

No, any good auto parts store will have a lock cylinder with keys.
