Injector pump oil leak

Hello,
My injector pump from seal is leaking engine oil from the front. Does anyone know if the seal can just be replaced? I will call Hamilton Engine in OR( thanks to the forum) on Monday and see what they recomend, but thought I would see if anyone has had the same issue. The seal where the timer shaft exits the pump is leaking. I can have the entire pump rebuilt for $1250 which is probably a good idea anyway, but perhaps it is only a $10 shaft seal or something like that. The engine runs excellent cold and hot, but perhaps that is short lived. 133K miles on the rig.

My Diesel blimp is a 81 Excella turbo diesel.

Also, different topic, what is the difference between the RV & the standard shocks for the P30 chassis beside the RV's are more expensive? ride stiffness? Storage life?

Is it leaking from the front of the timing case cover? How did you detect that it was leaking? Just curious. Ive had that whole front assembly pulled apart and since the injector pump timing gear is inside the front cover i was wondering where you saw or how you detected a leak? I am really new to these diesels. The folks at Hamilton are Amazing when it comes to customer service by the way. I have been just blown away at their willingness to help and their ability to locate and ship parts from all over the country.

The shaft comes out of the front of the injector pump cover to what they call a timer. I can look at where the shaft exits the injector pump housing and is rotating and see the oil leaking. I will try to find a picture.

Just a note of caution, and you probably already know this but if you happen not to, is that if during your repair, if the the injection pump timing gear needs to be removed to replace the seal, make sure you mark the teeth of the injection pump gear and where they intersect with the main crankshaft gear. When i pulled the cover the injection pump shaft and gear came out a bit and when i went to reinstall it i had know idea if it was aligned properly with the crank gear. There are A,B,C,AA,BB etc. markings on the gears to assist in making sure that you get it back in properly but it was a real head scratcher for a bit. Had to crank the motor by hand for several rotations to get them all to line up properly then i could get the injection pump gear reinstalled and in "time". Im far from being familiar with this stuff and i hope im describing it in a manner that can be understood. Good luck in the repair. Lots of time spent just breaking down all the front end just to GET at this repair. But got it back together and knock on wood, running like a champ

I am not atemping this myself, to cold right now and we are going to take it on spring break-hopefully.

I will let the mechanic know about the timing gear alignment.
