Head light anomaly

So here's a good one. Sometimes my headlights work normally, other times when I turn them on only the side lights come on but when I turn on the high beams all lights work. Has anybody ever run across this?

You probably have a bad dimmer switch, or a bad connection to it.
I have seen the occasional issue when both low beam headlights are burned out, but it is rare for both to fail at the exact same time.

I have seen ignition switches fail. Hard to track down.

Do you have DRLs?

How about a light relay? If either fail it is usually as intermittents.

General suggestion, inspect all grounds for the light circuit and any body to block jumper grounds if used. I just worked on an imported car for other reasons and the main block to body ground flex cable was all green and kinda brittle feeling. No it was not my repair scope that day, advised the owner and waved good bye.

Wink

Do you have 'flash to pass' on the turn-signal switch?

As mentioned don't overlook the lights themselves'. A test light on the plug will answer the question.
I've spent time myself chasing the dark.
Years ago.
No tail-lights.
Perplexed
Mentor asks...'have you checked the bulbs?'
'Both at the same time?'
'yes...they were both installed at the same time, they both have exactly the same usage.'
Lesson learned. First things first.

Headlight Anomaly

When I turn on my headlights only the side lights come on, however when I turn on the bright lights all lights come on, however however, every now and again the headlights will come on and all lights will function normally. I'm thinking the problem is in the switch, what do you think?

Check your dimmer switch first

Also check the ground line on the funny headlight. It is real common to have wonky grounds do very strange things. Also pull the socket off the headlight and spray some contact cleaner on it. It is another source of problems.

I do have a flash to pass turn signal system. Bulbs are fine as is demonstrated when turning on the bright lights and also when they work intermittently.
