Getting 454 smog ready

My father picked up a 85 Airstream motorhome with the Chevy 454 and the previous owner removed some parts needed to smog because they stopped working and it never really left his property in 10 years. The local Chevy and Airstream dealers have been no help in the matter so I was hoping I could see if anyone not restricted by smog laws may have these parts in the garage or at least know part numbers/where to get them. I am missing;

- smog pump and pulley
- diverter valve
- engine emissions label

Would also be very helpful if anyone had the vacuum system diagram as things have been rerouted around said missing parts.

Thanks for the help

There is quite a bit of info here:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f311...ted-97568.html

You will probably find more by looking at Keyair’s posts, not sure if the sticky thread in the “classic motorhome” section has smog information.

Most, if not all of those parts, are common 454 components. Should be able to find them pretty easily. This is going to sound strange, but I've had great success with rockauto.com. They a great selection of parts and great prices. The emissions sticker may be a bigger issue though. Might want to check with California emissions and see what can be accepted or reinspected by them.

Post #8 in the link above has a picture of the sticker from an ‘84. Maybe it could be printed out as a new sticker?

Try salvage yards.

I've got the pumps and possibly the diverter valve from an 86. If someone can tell us if they will work you can have them for shipping.

The label in the other thread will help a lot just getting everything put back together. I looked on the state website and it plainly says it can’t be failed for just missing the sticker so that might not be an issue after all.

I checked rock auto and they have three different pumps for a P30 chassis so I’ll have to check parts numbers when I pull the old one out tomorrow. And it looks like they have the correct pulley as well.

As for the diverter valve I’m not having much luck finding anything specific. Dozens of options come up with whatever search terms I use. Is there a more technical term for it that I might be missing? Brad - would there happen to be a part number of any kind on the one you have. I don’t see them changing over one year....hopefully

This weekend I'll climb up to the barn loft and get a picture of the diverter valve. Here's a link to a diverter valve on ebay. From memory the one I have looks similar if not the same as this one.

That exactly the one I found and think is the best bet. Just want to be sure before I spend the $100 on it

I'll try and get up into the loft tonight and get a picture of the one I have. If the one on ebay is the same I'd buy it before trying to get by with a used one.

I actually have two of the diverer valves. The 86 345 had twp smog pumps and two diverter valves.

Extra cylinders, coils, sparkplugs, spark plug wires, carbureters, heat issues, explosive fuel, smog pumps, diverter valves, weird vacuum lines.......I'm soooo glad I have a diesel.

Cheers

That diverter valve is different than what I’ve been seeing. I found and got a NOs one ordered off eBay tonight. It is the same part number as the one in Keyairs post in the other thread. Napa had a remain pump for a pretty good price so I snagged that as well so I won’t be needing Brads old parts after all. Thanks for taking the time to look though.

New or rebuilt is usually better than parts that have been sitting in a barn loft for a number of years

I hate to get rid of the parts, especially the brackets because someday someone is gonna need them.

For future reference the parts are from an 86 345 that had duel smog pumps and three canisters.

Getting 454 smog ready

Omg.
I’m late to this party.
I have so much info it will blow your brains out of the top of your head!

First question, is, is the Motorhome originally a Federal Emissions or a CA emissions?
I can’t see on my phone, but where are you located and where is the MH going to be smogged?

I will tell you with 99% certainty that the smog pump is available, still but the diverter valve is NLA new or otherwise.
Spent money on a NOS unit that was also NF. Frustrating.
All the used ones are NF and I have dissected several used ones and have not figured out how to fix one yet.
