Faulty wiper control unit

Hi - all - I have a problem with one of my wipers (1991 250 classic). My mechanic (who is v.reliable) has identified the problem as the wiper control unit. I've searched about but can't find any reference to this part. Does anyone know where I can find one?

many thanks

Nick

Do you mean the wiper motor? If so you may find that the face, the plate covering the motor facing forward when mounted in the truck, of the motor can be unbolted and you should find a printed circuit board just under the cover. Look at the lower edge of the board for a fine circuit wire that has opened, as a fuse would. If so just solder a wire across this opening. The copper foil in question will be about 1/2 the size of the rest of the copper foil s on the circuit board. A GM planned failure point.

Noe sure your this will apply to your MH because of its age but this was a very common problem with many GM wiper motors for some time in the 80s.

Another approach to some GM wiper motor problems is just to give the motor a good whack with the handle of a screwdriver.

Good Luck

Thanks Howie. I think it is the wiper/washer control module. It is attached to the back of the dash and is further upstream from the motors. I think it is an Airstream modification to the Chevvy chassis. There were a few items which were added by Airstream....and this was one of them. It might be a 'Dana wiper/washer control module'. Anyone any ideas if these are still made or whether you can get a replacement?

thanks
Nick

See if this will work.

If it will work and you can't get it on your side of the pond let me know.

Thanks Howie - looks v.interesting. I wasn't aware these units could be swapped out with newer alternatives. Has anyone else managed to change the original Dana unit with something else?

many thanks

I made the mistake of taking my 'Silver Bullet' to a garage for alinment. Somehow they blowup the battery, started, backup camera, radio and the wipeshield wiper control. I pulled the controller box out, replaced a diode and some lands on the control board. Has worked every since. I think they tried to jump start it backwards. They broke my window latch too. I never went back... Go firgure.
You really can't find good help.
