Engine run on in my '88 454 AS

I just recently(two days ago) removed my charcoal filter in my Banks Power Pack system. I have felt a positive effect on over all power and performance in my 454 in a 345 MH. My only problem is that now when I turn off the engine I have substantial run on. My temperature gauge does not show any over heating but something is definitely wrong. Does anyone have any idea or solution to my engine run on...thanks for your help...Mr. D.

Didn't you say in another thread that your idle RPM are up. This could encourage run-on. Also since you seem to have removed substantial restriction in the air intake, I wonder if you could be running lean?

when my choke sticks a bit I get some run on. Cleaning the choke and carb seems to always end it for me.

Most vehicles of this vintage have an idle stop solenoid, or or idle increase motor, whatever it's called. If this is stuck in the "run" position, it will keep RPM up, and promote run-on. Just for S&G's, turn your curb idle down a couple hundred RPM, and see if this helps your problem.

Thanks to all problem solved

I returned to my engine with all of your suggestions. I discovered that my choke was not fully disengaging and therefore causing the engine to idle faster. A faster idle in itself seems to have caused the run on problem. A little more clean up and the choke seems to be fine. Thanks for the advice guys...everything is now ready and my rig should be rolling South on Thursday 4/13... Mr. D.

Great to hear that it works. I keep a large can of carb cleaner always near the workbench.
