Electric Rear Fuel Pump 1987 290.

Hi! I'm suspecting my rear fuel pump is producing less than desirable pressure under load and I decided to replace it as preventative maintenance. At no huge surprise when my service advisor called me this morning saying it's not your typical fuel pump and the parts department is looking into it. I wanted to post to see if any of you had experience with a particular pump that is recommended?

Unfortunately I dont think I can help with your question because I did my own installation of a high pressure aftermarket in-tank pump (where there was none before) http://theouterlimits.ws/projects/ai...uel/index.html
I am curious on how they pulled it off in a 87?
In my installation I cut a hole in the floor over the top of the pump flange. I was wondering if they made easy access in the OEM version?

I know in 1986 Airstream used a Carter P4070 fuel pump for the rear pusher pump. If your coach is 454 powered and doesn't use an in-tank fuel pump then this pump should do the job.

I recently had a Carter P4070 installed in Bella (350 small block) and the mechanical pump removed. Massively better starting, but had one or two cases of the engine dying when sitting in drive waiting for lights to change. Dropping out of gear allows the engine tick-over to pick up....haven't tried to fix the issue as Brad is holding an idle stop solenoid for me that will allow the fast idle (out of gear) to be correctly set, to give the correct idle under load.

Martin, maybe I ought to mail the idle stop solenoid to you. Originally I think the plan was for you to drive Bella to Richmond and I would install it here.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen now

I installed a carter p4070 in my 345 (454 carbureted)
My 345 didn't have one, maybe the previous owner removed it I'm not sure but I installed one and that seemed to help with stalling problems, and sometimes fuel starvation under load.
I have a fuel pressure gauge on my dashboard that I installed. My fuel pressure went from 1 to 2 psi to about 4 or 5 psi with the carter pump "helping" the Mechanical pump on the engine
