CAT Problems and not the fuzzy kind.

Lately my 1999 300hp Cat engine in my Airstream Cutter (Freightliner Chassis) has been acting up.

When cold, starts just fine. Sometimes, after running either for hours or minutes, it will crank but will not start.

No idiot lights will show.

Any ideas.

Would like to take it to a mechanic that does not cost $125 per flat rate hour such as Freightliner and let them keep it for two or three weeks before even starting on it. As you can tell, not much of a fan of Freightliner. There are other options, if I can get an idea on the diagnosis.

Let the CAT people shine.

You might try www.pickuptruck.com or www.dieselplace.com forums. There are some diesel techs who work on CATs the best I remember.

It might not be getting enough air. Check the air filter. Hot air is less dense, doesn't get enough compression for combustion. Could also be restricted exhaust. Or slow cranking, due to overheated starter motor.

Has the valve lash been checked? Was this engine covered by the 3126B recall?

air in the fuel system?

i had a 466 international at work that acted that way.

loose fuel filter was the culprit.
