I lost on the highway belt air conditioning compressor, some straps I have a number, any of you know that number so I can buy another?

I am assuming it is for your 454 24ft Argosy MH as you posted about it previously Herman?

There is some information in this previous thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f311...ead-99016.html but first of all you need to identify which belt type you have as I believe there are two, which have different lengths and routing - with and without the air pump.

If you have GM 3921905 it's dimensions are:-
Outside Circumference:1279.53 mm,50.375 in
Top Width:11.23 mm,0.438 in

If you have GM 3999272:-
Outside Circumference:1171.58 mm,46.125 in
Top Width:11.23 mm,0.438 in

So maybe you can find a belt from a alternate source

yes is my 1977 argosy 24 ft
when I drove from Indianapolis to Baltimore, belt and AC generator broke, I could only get the generator and I could read the number, but I lost AC.
Next week comes the Argosy to Germany, and summer we have almost on the doorstep

the photos schemes belts, mine are different, because looking at the engine front, I have left and right generator AC

Hopefully someone else will be able to help Herman. On the Argosy I had only seen the ones in the image (with some variations) and always the AC was one side and the alternator the other side of the engine, later engines had different options

If the belts came off on the road can you remember the way they are routed?

When you buy another, buy two, one to carry as a spare. A spare for the other belt wouldn't be amiss, either.

A belt is one of the few breakables in an engine that is relatively easy to replace, if only you have one with you.

I've replaced the belts on an 84 310 and a 74 Argosy both with 454 engines.
I created a write-up with details on what I did and what belts I used. Keep in mind the belts for the Argosy for your motorhome will likely be different than mine because I installed a later model A/C pump which changed the belt length.

Below you'll find write-ups explaining the Argosy v-belt replacement and also for the 310 v-belt replacement.

I hope the following information isn't to confusing.

Airstream Argosy 1974 v-belt replacement info

Rear means to rear of coach
Front means towards radiator
WP = water pump
PS = power steering

Order of installation:




Get the first two belts in place and lined up with appropriate grooves before any tensioning. Then tension the PS pump first, then the A/C pump and then install the alternator belt and tension it.

Gates 7410 (41-5/8" long)
1st belt - PS to Crank
Rear groove of PS pump pulley to rear groove of crank pulley.
Tension PS using 1/2" ratchet connected to top bracket of power steering pump.



There is one tension bolt on the top of the PS bracket that uses a 3/4" wrench.
There are two pivot bolts on the bottom side of the PS pump. The wrench size is 5/8". They will need to be loosened before removing the belts and tightened after the belt has been tensioned.

Gates 7603 (xxxx" long)
2nd belt - A/C to PS to Crank to WP
Rear groove of A/C pump to rear groove of WP pulley to middle groove of crank pulley.
Tension after step 1 (PS pump) has been tensioned, Tension using A/C pump adjuster.
Note that the A/C pump has two grooves. The front groove (closest to radiator) is not used.

Gates 7470 (xxxx" long)
3rd belt - Alt to WP to Crank
Front groove of WP pulley to front groove of Crank to single groove of Alternator pulley.
There is one bolt that uses 1/2" wrench at the top of the alternator bracket that will need to be loosened and one pivot bolt on the bottom side of the alternator that is a 9/16" wrench size that will need to be loosened. The lower alternator bolt is accessible from inside right front wheel well. Tension by using a pry bar on the Alternator. Tighten the top bolt first and then the lower pivot bolt.

2nd belt - A/C to PS to Crank to WP
Rear groove of A/C pump to rear groove of WP pulley to middle groove of crank pulley.
Tension after step 1 (PS pump) has been tensioned, Tension using A/C pump adjuster.
Note that the A/C pump has two grooves. The front groove (closest to radiator) is not used.

Gates 7495 (50-1/8" long)
3rd belt - Alt to WP to Smog pump to Crank
Front groove of WP pulley to front groove of Crank to single groove of Smog pump to single groove of Alternator pulley.
There is one bolt that uses 1/2" wrench at the top of the alternator bracket that will need to be loosened and one pivot bolt on the bottom side of the alternator that is a 9/16" wrench size that will need to be loosened. The lower alternator bolt is accessible from inside right front wheel well. Be careful not to loosen bolts on smog pump which is right below alternator.
Tension by using a pry bar on the Alternator. Tighten the top bolt first and then the lower pivot bolt.
Beware of lower part of smog pump bracket. Before tensioning, the belt can get blow this bracket and then when you tension the belt it will be caught. The belt will then squeal badly. Not safe to drive with the belt caught light that.
