Atlas diesel issues at Mercedes

My understanding from an owner of a Leisure Travel Van with Mercedes diesel is following. If owner uses bio-diesel at any percentage, then warranty is forfeited. Seems biodiesel is bad. I live in South where some states only have 25% blends. Most are at least 5-10%. I was thinking about trading my 2015 FC 28 in for the Atlas, but now holding back.

Mercedes recommendation for bio-diesel is no more than 5%, but use of higher % does not void warranty. Anyway how could Mercedes ever determine what % one used? There is a lot of information available on the use of bio-diesel in Mercedes diesels.

Thx. In MS and LA, it is getting more difficult to find less than 20% bio-diesel. I talked to Mercedes USA. In case of engine failure, they can identify issues caused by bio and will reject any warranty repairs. Hence, my reluctance to move on Atlas.

As mentioned in the document I linked above the real problem is biodiesel blends higher than 20%. The 5-20% diesel is restricted and should be minimized, but it can't be avoided in many states.

Mercedes just dropped diesels completely from their SUV and car models in USA. Along with the diesel emissions issues I'm sure the higher use of poor quality biodiesel in the USA was part of their decision. So now only Sprinters have a diesel engine. In 2019 the Sprinters will also have a gasoline engine option, but only a small 2.0 Liter 4-cylinder. That probably won't work or even be offered in the larger Sprinters used for RVs. Mercedes just built a new plant in South Carolina to build Sprinters and Metris vans. Sure hope they plan to make their diesels more compatible with fuel available in USA.
