'81 Mitsubishi turbo diesel

So... Can one still get parts for this or do you have to have your own machine tool shop. Can it be replaced with a newer or big block. I remember seeing that parts for the older MH diesel engines are not avail. Any experts?

Diesel engine

are you refering to the 280 on ebay?

If you are the seller added the following

"We have made a mistake about the motor on this unit! It is Isuzu Turbo Diesel motor not a mitsubishi..thanks Autobrokersllc "

I emailed him about that last night and he was pretty aggravated he got it wrong. At least he is legit enough to reply and correct it, I couldn't guess how many sellers haven't even replied to questons; those are the ones that scare me.

the Isuzu parts should still be available, as those motors are in many trucks still on the road.
The Ebay 280 might be a good deal for someone, rip out that old interior and whatever appliances are shot and you might put together a nice coach.
Of course be prepared to fix everything. Then you can be pleasantly surprised at what you won't have to fix,

Isuzu Diesel

The Isuzu Diesel is an industrial engine that Airstream had modified for the motorhome. The original in my 1981 Excella was a 6BD1; I replaced it with a new “crate” 6BG1-T turbo Diesel which was manufactured in 1996. There was a spun main bearing in my old engine which discouraged me from proceeding with an in-frame rebuild when I overheated the old engine. The source for parts and service for these engines is Tom's Trucks in Santa Ana, CA
