502 in a '92?

Time for a new motor and a crate 502 seemed like a good idea until I contacted a few on-line dealers, told them what I wanted, and got everything from "it's for a 1 ton pickup...it won't fit your motorhome" to "you know, if you misapply it, there's no warranty." The '91-'93 smog legal TRUCK engine and kit is PN 88890533. Any real world info on this? I'm certain I can get a 502 into the hole a 454 came out of and make it run, but if I have to make brackets and don't get a warranty, it takes some of the fun out of it. Thanks.

Someone here on the forum has done this. It was in a 90's vintage Land Yacht. He went with a Jasper 502, RV model IIRC. I don't remember his userid though. I will look for it.

You should have no problem, as it's the same casting series as the original 454!

Try this link for more info:

Take care,

502 replace the 454

I replace my 454 with a 502. It did require a new intake maifold and becasue of that the dog house had to be modified. But not my much just raised abvout 2". I had a banks system on the old 454 and it all worked on the 502. There is no fuel pump on the 502 so u have to use the electric one as the sole pump. WOW the 502 really has a more power. I now run at 2700 rpm at 60 mph where it was close to 3000 rpm before. I have a 1984 31' airstream.

FWIW the above-mentioned '92 30' is going into E&B Racing in Lancaster, CA on Saturday for a "490# regular gas" rebuild. Ed is a long-time racer with a speed shop in front and a huge shop in back with a drive-on dyno that fits motorhomes. Guesstimate is around $5K all in. He's done dozens, if not 100's of RV motors (never mind the twin-turbo big block he ran in his SuperProduction car a while back.) He also installs Gear Vendors, etc.

I did all the homework on the crate tow 502, and what with injection chips, extra fuel pumps, weird brackets, iffy warranty, fussy installers, high test, dollars, etc., it seemed easier to give it to Ed. We'll see in 10 days.

Sorry. Senior moment. E&B makes fork tubes for the race bikes. Ed's at R&E Racing. 661 948 7622.
