Allison 1000
Been running around looking for a shop to rebuild this t-1000 I bought. Not many shop will tough the Allison. The only one that will (I don't like) wanted $4100 and I can get one for $3000 w/no core charge from 'Cummins-Allison Conversion'.
So I had to call my credit card company to raise my limit then I called 'Cummins-Allison' and pulled the trigger! All I can say is I'm WAY over budget! The only other cost will be: transmission fluid and the driveshaft... Again. Dang, I had the driveshaft redone when I installed the 4L80e, then again for the Cummins, and now for the Allison. Maybe I'll get a auto-adjust driveshaft.
Will be shipped next week and take about 2 weeks to arrive.
Got the tranny I bought on Craigslist. May put the 4L80e on the list too.

I keep paying the satellite bill and mommy's happy.
Had to start backing up.
While I wait for the new tranny I've been looking and checking. Found the pan is setting on the steering link that should go under the motor. Got the front back off with the engine boom in it. Can't find my chain, so tomorrow got to build up another. Then see if I can lift the motor up enough to take the mount brackets off and modify them to raise the motor up off the steering.
That means the turban won't clear the body...... SO it's coming off and the exhaust manifold to try and find a way to cut the turban mounting plate off and lower the angle so it ends up about an inch lower the what I raise the motor.
THEN... That may cause the tranny to not clear the floor. You see where this is going????
My life long project it's looking like.

Now I got my new oil pan, gasket.
Dang I can't load pictures My dime must of run out on the 'donation' board. Now to figure that out again.
Anyway I got the new oil pan, gasket AND the exhaust manifold I should of found last year. Got it from 'Pure Diesel Power' p/n 1045989. Will need to reshape the oil drain tube, rotate the turbo body and the compressor shroud. Then the exhaust will need to change. I got to buy me a mig welder because now I need to put all the floor tubing back in. If I'd found this exhaust manifold in the beginning, wouldn't need to cut all that out.
Got the motor setting on a piece of scrap angle iron on the back and the hydraulic jack on a big block of wood with a 6" 2X4 standing on end under the front pulley. Couldn't get it high enough with the engine boom. Don't need any earthquakes till I get it back on the mounts.
Oh, the mount brackets are at my buddy's shop waiting to be cut apart and moved up about 1/2" to clear the steering linkage.
The Allison 6-speed is setting on a dock is OKC. Got here late Friday. Will pickup Monday.
Maybe by then I can remember how to renew my 'donation' and have pictures.

Here the wiring harnesses. The two wire together, so, got to drill another hole in the floor. Need a fuse block with 5 fuses. One switched and 4 battery
I really wanted to use the side mounts like the 545 had, BUT the bell housing I got don't accommodate them. They say the SEA-3 has the flange to the side mounts. BUT (I hate the word) what else must be changed????
I think It's going to fit w/o floor modification. Got it up almost within bolting distinct when I realized didn't get the torque convertor all the way into the front pump. As I lowered it I forgot to take out a lineup pin, so I pulled the pin and the tranny fall off the jack. Almost cuase me a hospital visit.
Now that I have it in, need to see if I can use the Chevy x-member, or will I need to fabricate a new one.
I need to upgrade to a nice mig welder.
I had to find a e-brake. If I still had that 545 setting around I'd have the e-brake, linkage, side mounts and .......
I need to start keeping everything. Not scrap anything. Become a full fledged hoarder. Maybe I could be on TV then....

Wow! What an adventure!
Yes, number 1 rule, never, ever throw anything out until the project is done and working. I kept my oringal counter tops, cabinets, interior fittings and everything I pulled out until the very end; (except the compression hose fittings for the kitchen faucet....(which a friend helping me with the plumbing threw out; $20,00 later, special order). Oh,well; he's still a friend.
When will this beast live?
Cheers

Good to keep friends.
Now at I have the shift actuator and the e-brake on, the Chevy x-member is scrap iron.
So, I go back and think about the side mounts I have on the frame and how to make a bracket for them. On the right side I'm thinking (and that hurts) of using the two bottom bolt into the front of the transmission as attachment point for the bracket up to the frame mounts.
The question is, will two bolts be enough?
Oh how simple this would all have been IT the smart people I bought this off of had the foresight to realize that by using a Chevy bell housing and the e-brake rear housing it leaves no place to mount the damn thing to the vehicle!!!!
Could use same helpful hints at this time

Don't break any bolts, don't put gas in diesel fuel tanks, you're tires are already 78% nitrogen need more???? next door camping neighbors with noisy dogs or kids you can answer that one on your own. Metric bolts and SAE nuts don't mix too well review first hint for details.
Cummins 5.9L, darn fine choice now just get 'er done!

Is that the only place you want to hold up the drivetrain?
Those bolts look like the ones a special jig for mounting the tranny to a lift. But I don't have a manual to verify my statement. Don't know where you got the tranny, but a visit to your local Allison shop should give you better facts than I can.

Mel,
Don't worry you can finish it next year, 2016 is just about over.

Well, I got the bell housing for a Chevy because I already had that engine/tranny adapter. If I'd known anything I would know that to get the side mounts I needed the SAE 3 bell housing. Now with the sae 3 bell housing I would need a different engine/tranny adapter plate and started.
Without the bell housing that has the side mount flanges and no rear mount because the e-brake rear housing has no way to mount, the question is: Do I use the 3 bolts on each side on the front of the tranny to the frame or do I make a mount over the top at the rear?????
Next week the weather is going into the toilet, so maybe I'll get some card board and make so progress. It just pisses me off that someone in the chain of people I bought this from didn't tell me, "It you use the Chevy bell housing and the rear housing for the e-brake there's no way to mount it!"

I really messed up when I didn't rebuild the AT 545 (the PO had installed) and change the rear end from 4.56 to 3.54. The 4L80e was a big disappointment. But then I wasn't thinking diesel, I was thinking 489 cid gas and the 545 couldn't handle that kind of input torque.
Next task is to get the holes drilled in the right place on the side mount I've been cutting and grinding on for days now.

I've been grinding and cutting on this for some days now and I thing I have the right side side mount bracket done! This is model 4-C. You'll notice the extra 1/8" added to the left part. This was because of a offset from the other two holes. Of couse I welded the first one on the wrong side... But then that hole has a very thin wall, so the extra 1/4" is welcome. Now I need longer bolts before I can bolt it on. The left side is next.

Been having too much drama in my life of late. Can't seem to get to my own projects.
Anyway you don't want to hear me whining about brother-in-laws and all that, so...
Got the other side mount all welded up.
Put longer bolts in all but the one showing. Would have to cut a chuck out of the bell housing for that one.
This is one of the plugs for the shift actuator. Can't plug together because both plugs have a center prong. Need to have a chat with the boys in Florida.
From the rear on the drivers side.
Rear view on the right side.
This is the mickey mouse TPS setup that came with the wire. I ask them why they didn't use the next generation TPS that would bolt right on the the throttle and they said, "It wouldn't fit the wiring harness." What? Use the TPS that can be got from Dodge? Too simple I guess.
So I get to screwing with the throttle setup and I realize the the throttle cable bracket is bent at a 45 degree angle to what it should be. I'm having more and more doubts that this motor came from a driveable truck. So now the throttle cable is too short. No problem I can solder a piece on. Now working on my knees, bent half over is not my favorite thing of all times to do. So, slow going. I try for the last 4 days to weld a piece of cable on. I just can't get solder to flow on the throttle cable part of it. Each time I try I have to cut a little more off because I'm taking the temper out. Today I decide it's time for a new cable.
Had to buy a CRP123 programmer for the transmission (thought it was plug ans go) First thing to do in 'register and update'. After many tries, I learn it don't work with Window 10 OS, only XP and 7... CRAP!
And that's where I'm at right now.
