454 Spark Plug suggestion?

Hi Peeps,
I want to get some new plugs on my way forward to passing my emission test.
There has been so many material and technical changes to plugs over the years, i wondered what would work best in our old style engines for power and emissions.
Thoughts and experiences?

Stock plugs work for me here in NY
I suggest you move your vehicle registration to a state that is not so anal on emissions

Spark Plugs have not evolved much other than super fancy materials comprising their structure.
I have worked on so many older vehicles that do not run correctly and find Iridium or Platinum spark plugs that are not correct for the application. The newer plugs are designed to have their own high output coil sitting directly on top of them or very close by.
I only use AC/Delco spark plugs in a GM product although you may choose a different flavor (Champion, Autolite, etc...).
The R44T AC/Delco spark plug is excellent for your unit, make sure that it is properly gapped for your ignition system (another huge debate goes on here!) I use .045 on every HEI distributor, and .060 on Capacitance Discharge.

I think the sticker on the side of the air intake housing will specify the stock spark plug gap. At least, it does on my coach. I only use AC Delco.

I second the R44T (copper electrode). If it's running funny, you can replace all of the ignition components (parts cost) for under $150, (Plugs, Coil, cap, rotor, wires, and Ignition control module) and it'll run like a champ!

I agree with the suggestion about using OEM recommended plugs, they seem to work best in these "older" vehicles. Do not use "old" new old stock spark plugs, I own several vintage cars, and there is a lot of discussion about how brand new "old" (20+ years old) plugs do not work; somehow the AC Delco plugs will fail just sitting on a shelf. A lot of my buddies like to buy new old stock plugs off of EBay and the older plugs seems to have a problem. I would suggest you buy the newest AC Delco plugs you can find.

I used E3 plugs in my 496ci Chevrolet, they increased my mileage and response while towing

Question Snake oil....

As in most things internal combustion, improvement is inevitable. Spark Plugs are no exception.
Choose a quality brand and select the top of the line and you should be go. Bosch, NGK, Denso, AC all have worked for me.

Currently use NGK Iridium in anything they make a plug for, 2006 'Burb 8.1, Mercury Racing OB, Mercedes GLK and NGK standards for 53' Ford Flathead, 2000i Honda and all other power equipment.

Yes...I like the NGK Brand.

The old rule of thumb was:

GM - AC/Delco

Ford - Autolite

Chrysler - Champion

Seen those smooth out when rule followed. How factory tuned them.

I've tried and liked iridium. But not cheap.

Ordered AC Delco Rapidfire Platinum plugs, an AC Delco Ignition Module, and a High Quality Cap and Rotor with Brass contacts.
Now onto find some good plug wires!

This is the plug in my 454 and spark plug wire ceramic insulator.
Has to be 20 years old.
