310 Isuzu diesel flex plate

Does anyone know what flex plate is used on 1982 310 with the Isuzu diesel motor in it? Mine is cracked and needs to be replaced.

Without stating the obvious that the coach wouldn't move under its own power, what indications, sounds, symptoms indicated this failure? Also the link you showed is no longer available. Just for future reference.

Cheers
Tony

Not a lot of warning Tony. I'm sure there might be some cracking and clanging noises in the plate but not enough to be heard over the normal engine and highway noise. Failure was preceded by a couple of jerks that felt like a minor engine miss and then you are in neutral as you coast to the side of the road. You can still stop and start the engine because the started engages the original Isuzu flywheel and ring gear.

It must be a government conspiracy for you folks up north. The links both worked for me. The airforums link is page 49 of the "What did you get for your motorhome today" thread post 680 dated 6-5-2012. The link in that post is to Jegs but apparently the plate is discontinued but they refer to similar plates available.

As noted in the post the plate I used was advertised as .187" thick 4130 chrome moly. For those unaware a diesel produces a sharper impact with the firing of each cylinder then a gasoline engine does. A diesel clutch plate has a heaver hub spring set up to absorb the impact. The flex plate has ridged hub which sends the impacts through to the torque converter. The fluid coupling of the TH400 torque converter handles the impacts as long as the flexplate remains intact. The .187" 4130 looked like the best choice at the time.

Any other questions feel free to ask.
