1992 Land Yacht Wiper keeps running

I have a problem with my wipers on my 1992 AS 36' Land Yacht. As soon as the ignition is turned on it starts the wipers. If it's in the off position it seems to be on the delay setting. If it turn it to low it goes into low and high goes into high but I can not get it to turn off. I pretty sure that AS didn't use the GM wiper motor but not sure what they did use. I haven't been able to find the schematics for the wiper system either. Does anyone have any information on this so I can troubleshoot the system?

Are the delays completely turned off? Its a funky switch they put on them, but I believe it is GM.

Seems like the switch is GM but the motor is from something else. The motor MFG is Sprague and has 4 wires coming off of it. Seems like 2 of the wires are for the high and low speed operation with the body being ground. The other two seem to have no continuity to either ground or to each other.

Are there two "OFF" positions? Yesterday I disconnected the connector at the motor and checked the contacts. While I had it apart I took a look at the turn signal stem that the wiper controls are on. I was thinking of what you posted and checked the delay part of the switch. I noticed it slide smoothly from side to side and then seemed to click into position at the far end of the slowest setting. With the ignition on I reconnected the wiper motor and behold... No wiper motion. I then turned the wiper onto "LOW" position and the wipers moved at the slow speed. I put it back into the "OFF" position and the wipers parked and stopped. Is it possible that for the last few years I just didn't know to turn the delay slide all the way to the right in order to completely turn the wipers off or is there still something going on?

I had a similar issue, it was a faulty wiper control module which is a black box behind the dash. You can still get the replacement part, I'm sure i put a link on the site years ago. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll see if I can find the receipt.

allbest

Wiper control module

Hi there,

Please see attachments, but also the other thread which is running a very similar topic. It shows a picture of the module, which is right at the back behind the dash. As per the other thread, apply voltage to the motors to check they are working correctly. It's then either the stalk or the wiper module. Mine was all over the shop, very intermittent, sometimes they just ran without being switch on.

I am trying to find out where I sourced it, but I think it might have been a company called Rostra. I will carry on looking and post a link in due course. I'm certain it was far cheaper direct from the manufacturer than through an Airstream dealer.

all best
Nick

Hi - I posted an old post in 2012 which said that the part came from Rostra Precision Controls so that is probably correct. I would drop them a mail.

Are your wipers still working? I changed the module and I thought it still wasn't working right and I stumbled on to what you described, and everything has worked ever since. I don't know if changing the module had anything to do with fixing the problem, or just the funky switch.

Mine is still not working. Just got back to this thread so I haven't responded. I guess my next step is to replace the control module.

Looks like I'll be trying to source the control module as well.
