Question 1978 Argosy Airstream Oil Amount

Hello,

I have a 1978 Argosy Airstream 28 foot RV. It has a 454, 4 Barrel Carb.
I am trying to get the Dip stick for it, but I am not sure if I need 5 or 6 quarts of Oil. When I do the oil change, I can then mark the line to show me when it is full.
I have not gotten to take him camping yet, but I will soon.

Does anyone know for sure if it is 5 or 6 quarts I need?

If so Please advise, I am new at this.

Thanks

Oscar

Oscar,

Its going to be a minimum of 5 quarts. My 1974 Argosy motorhome with 454 owners manual states 5 quarts with filter change.

However our 1984 310 motorhome uses 6 quarts in the crankcase plus 1 quart for the filter which means a refill with filter change is 7 quarts.

Hopefully someone with a 76 Argosy 454 motorhome will chime in.

One other thing, I always use a 2 quart oil filter. Which means the oil change for our 310 takes 8 quarts.

Brad

Brad,
What is the part number of the 2 quart filter? What brand do you use, and where to get?
Thanks, Rob

Rob, I'll try and find the number.

All I did was stop in a local NAPA store and asked for a two quart filter for a 454. The guy knew exactly what I was looking for and pulled it off the shelf. Its a Wix filter.

I'll let you know what I find.

Finally found the filter number. Part number is NAPA Gold 1794 and holds about 2 quarts.
