Year model from VIN

Is it possible for anybody here to tell me whether I have a 91 or 92 model Land Yacht? I just bought it and there was some confusion whether it's really a 91 or 92. The original owner passed away so I can't ask him. But I have VIN # if that would help. Is it safe to post that # in the public forum. I'll post it or part of it if that helps but will wait for someone to let me know if posting my VIN in public is advisable or not.

Thanks.

Dave

VIN #S

Dave,

I can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't / couldn't post your VIN # for the help you need in dating the vehicle.

I can't think of any security issues involved with your VIN #.

VIN #s

Dave,

I just ran your VIN # through ... www.vindecoder.org ... and the results show it to be a "1991 Chevrolet P30 Motorized Home"

Go to the www.vondecoder.org site and run the number yourself to see the results.

Hope this helps ...

Dave J,

If you go in on Airstream's site, under Prod Line, FAQ, & VIN, you will see Airstreams detailed breakdown of VIN numbers.

However, I read somewhere that on motorhomes, Airstream doesn't assign the original VIN number. You need to get one of the folks on here who owns a motorhome vs. trailer.

The 10th digit is the year digit on a trailer. If it is the same on your unit, the M = 1991.

Motorhome VIN

The classic motorhomes have 2 vin numbers. One is the Chevrolet number for the P30 chassis, and the other is the Airstream VIN for the body. Often the numbers will indicate different years. My current 345 is built on a 1985 P30 chassis, and is registered as an 85 P30. But the body is an '86, and has the '86 cabinets and features and an '86 Airstream VIN. The two VIN plates are next to each other on the curb side of the radiator. The motorhome I had before this one was an '82/'83 310 that was the same way. Airstream buys the chassis and doesn't always build the body in the same year.

Well, now that makes more sense because the previous owner's widow was saying that she was not sure what year it was <91 or 92>. So now that means that the chassis is 91 but the motorhome package on top of the frame is 92.

Thanks for clarifying this. BTW: I just transferred ownership and the reg says 91. But now I understand why.

Best Regards

Model Year

When dealing with mechanics, parts stores, chassis equip, etc.....

It's important to let anyone who may be working on or involved in procuring parts for the motor home to give them only the chassis build year.

GM made various changes from year to year, and cunfusion sometimes runs rampant!

Experience speaking here....

Found out an '87 fuel pump will definitly not fit on an '86 454.

Lost several hours on THAT learning curve.

VIN and parts

Having the proper VIN and chassis year model is no guarantee of getting the right parts. After 3 trips to NAPA, I found out that the left front caliper hose on my 85/86 345 is off of a G30 van not a P30. Sometimes they just used whatever was handy.
