Winterizing and stuff

There are only two seasons here in Alaska: winter and construction! And winter is coming fast. I need to change antifreeze in my 79 motorhome before winter sets in. I have three options as far as I can tell: have a "quick lube" exchange the fluid ($90), do it the ol' fashioned way by draining the fluid using the petcock on the bottom of the radiator, or use a "flush and fill" kit available at auto parts stores. Anyone have greater success doing one over the other? I might add that the fluid in the system now is kind of rusty looking so I believe it needs to be flushed.
Any winterizing tips that you can toss my way would be great!!Thanks to all!!

Whoops, forgot to mention that if I use the "flush and fill", where is the best place to put the in line hose conncetor? Perhaps the heater hoses?? Thanks again!

I used the flush and fill type kits for many years. I also installed the valve in the heater hose. You still will be opening the petcock for adequate draining, but you can get a better flush with the kit.
I would flush the system until it runs consistently clear, then drain, and add the right mix of anti freeze for your area. I imagine it would be a strong concentration where you are!
You can add a rust inhibitor, but I think good flushing and anti freeze renewal should do the trick for you.
You might want to check your thermostat while you are at it, as it might have been effected by the rusty water.
and scan your hoses also for cracking, etc.
