The factory lists towing weight limit at 2000 #. There are some folks here who have upgraded the hitch to tow more. The factory setup isn't much more than a "bumper" type hitch. The safety limit is due to the long overhang from the rear axle to bumper. this can act as a lever if you start to jacknife while driving. Shorter MH have a larger tow capacity. Same drivtrain though.

Several of the Land Yachts are diesel pushers and will tow heavier toads. Ours is a 300 cummins and I believe will tow 4000 lbs.

So few when we were looking for a Land Yacht with ebay, craigslist and google searches they never showed up. But it might have been in my using 1998-2004 as part of the search. I have seen 3000 as tow limit, but previous owner had upgraded to 5,000 hitch and 8,000 bar to tow 4500#. He also put in a gauge to track transmission temp, but none of his repairs show any problems with drivetrain.
Owned a year and still looking for my first sighting of an AS MH other than the B van with it's distinctive top hat.
We did see a Bambi at the SP we stayed at over Christmas and yesterday watching a movie from IFC, it featured an AS trailer as a goal a young couple wanted to use to harrass the grey haired owners of AS, with an appropriate name, FLAKES.

There is a Land Yacht Clipper on Craigslist in Sacramento, it can be seen on line;
foremostrecreation@hotmail.com is their email and you can see it at www.foremostrecreation.com . I spoke with the dealership and it is exactly like ours but they painted it. Really looks sharp if you like the flat front look. One of 25 made. Looks like they put in new carpet too. It has the 300hp cummins diesel like ours too.

It's a cause for celebration and excited waving when we see a silver mo/ho; which is VERY seldom.

After looking at the motor homes last night I started thinking, "we could have one of those and the trailer. A Classic would be nice for a trip to Alaska." Before I did something stupid, I told my wife I was having bad thoughts and what they were. She just gave me a look that said "don't do anything!" That was close.

Gene, I trust you have the abilities and tools to work on those shiny motorhomes. I was next to a very talented and mechanical fellow rv er in Norther Utah some time back and we got telling stories about our travels. He had a 345 and the damn thing was just beautiful. Most on the forum know how much I tow ours annually in all conditions. I carry a toy tool box compared to what this gentleman needed. He could set up a full service repair shop with what he was carrying. Impressive indeed.
His stories were of true survival, and anything and everything that can go wrong has been or he anticipated will happen. No easy ride, and if it had to be done by professional mechanic the cost would be, well just buy anew moho and save big time.
They are a great design and the problem is the aging chassis, that in many ways was inferior from day one. Anyway, I had the bug as well, but not knowing the difference between a phillips and star screw driver is a real problem. Now the cummings powered, pusher, full air ride unit on this thread is another story. Looks reliable and unique. I like it...

We bought a trailer as one of life's many compromises. I didn't want to tow a car behind a MoHo, especially if I wanted to explore some remote area that needed a 4WD truck. We would end up with an full sized SUV, pickup and a little car—didn't need 3 motor vehicles. They are also very expensive new and I didn't want a used RV, something that may not have been a good decision. I didn't particularly want to drive something the size of a bus (I have driven a bus, a long, long time ago). So we bought a trailer and we don't need a trailer and a motorhome. Those aluminum ones are pretty though.

We loved our '85 325.... everything but the expense of chassis and running gear repairs, and tires. Whew! that stuff can add up really fast.

Classic Airstream MH's in the UK
We have the 310, and I have it on good authority that the original cost in '83 was nearly $130K. We are the third owners and have had it for about 6 years. It took nearly 4 years to find one! I bought it from Denton near Dallas and imported her myself.
It is certainly unique, particularly here in the UK. Apart from a Friends 250 and another 310 that we first saw about 7 years ago, we have been the only AS MH on the patch. There are others, but never seen them, and we do travel all over the UK in it, towing either a Vauxhaull Corsa on a KarKaddy, or a PT cruiser with the Blue Ox Aladdin.
Yes! it is a money pot..... plenty goes in .... but enjoyment comes out!
I have kept as near to original as possible but giving way to Solar (PV Power), removing the generator and Roof Air-con's and fitting auto-satellite TV - Normal terrestrial is getting worse!
I wouldn't have any thing else - Long live (my) Airstream 310! - Long live us to be able to continue enjoying it..............

I Had a 1992 350 Classic for a few years. They drive nice, but you really need to tow another vehicle ..Its tough to go to the store for a loaf of bread driving a 35 1/2 foot motorhome...I asked the president of Airstream once (Met him at a dealer show) why they didn't make them any more...he said they were too expensive and couldn't sell them...I can believe it since the "sticker price" on mine was $142,000.00
I now tow a 28 foot Airstream and like it much more than the motorhome..Not as many features, but easier to use and much less to maintain..

I am a "lurker". Admittedly, I have been active on the BlueBird Wanderlodge sites for a couple of years, but I'm rethinking that route. Anyone have comments on the 310? I guess I don't know what to look for, but growing up with Airstream Trailers - my dad had a 4 digit WBCC number - I am fascinated by this product. I am only interested in the classic style that looks like an AS trailer.
Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I am just beginning my search.
