Update of project 31ft MH
Just a little update on progress of this 31 foot beast. We had to have it inspected and emission tested to get it licensed, they had to tweek carb a little to pass emissions. Known problems and status.
1. Shroud for one AC lost in Louisiana. Complete
2. Needs seat recliner block-o-lifts, on order.
3. Froze fan in bathroom. Replaced
4. Froze windshield washer motor. Replaced
5. Temperature gauge not working. replaced block sensor
6. Antenna froze up. Replaced with one off trailer.
7. Ordered window rubber & received from Inland RV. Will wait until it is warmer.
8. Sent Thin-Lite to Calif for repair and re installed.
9. Have new shocks
10. Having new springs installed this week and will not need air
pads.
I would like to thank all for nice info as I have been busy reading up as much as possible.
Future fixes.
1. Brakes which do not seem very good to me and I believe they are the power steering booster system. Any Ideas?
2. Probably need a Edlebrock 1903 to pass emissions next year.
3. Door. find a screen and replace hinges if possible. Any Suggestions.
4. Give it a good cleaning and find a replacment spare tire cover.
We plan on using the motorhome mostly in the fall through
the spring, as we have 2 airstream trailers at our 2 little acres
at Camp 9644 (25 miles south of Mountain View Wyoming)
We have a 24 ft Tradewind and a 22 ft Safari. The camp name is the elevation and the area is called Gilbert Meadows.
I would appreciate any suggestion or help thanks.

Thanks for the pdate, we all like to share in the joy and the pain!! When you say you are replacing the springs, you mean the rear? How big a job is that, and why will it eliminate the air bags? Will it raise the rear ride height? Dragging the trailer hitch due to low clearance has always been a bit of a problem.

Front Springs
The front springs as the air bags are shot and the springs are blocked. The spring will be strong enough to elminate the bag.

Changing the springs/airbags in the front axle will require front end alignment.
Often overlooked in a brake job: The rubber hydraulic lines (2 on the front and 1 in the rear) deteriorate from the inside out and should be replaced on 20+ year old vehicle.

Brakes work just OK
At first I was surprised at the lack of braking power on my AS motorhome. I began a check of the entire system. I started with the master cyl., wheel cyls., booster, flexible lines and finally pad linings. The good news? It was determined that nothing major was wrong. I pressure flushed the system and replaced the linings and made pedal adjustments etc. Rear drum brake adjustment was loose on my rig but was simple to adjust out. All this did helped a noticable amount. I am also looking into stainless flex lines. These will give a much firmer feel at the pedal. If you don't already have one, pick up a Chev P-30 universal motor home chassis service guide. It has much good information about the whole drivetrain/chassis/brakes etc. Goodluck with your project!

Mine actually came with my rig...
But this is a common service manual so it should be fairly easy to obtain. Chev sold lots of these P and G series chassis to motor home manufactuers. These may still be available right from your local Chevrolet dealer by ordering from the parts dept. Airstream may have them also. Helminc.com has tons of current and past service manuals available, you could give them a try. I did a quick search on the internet by typing the title " Chevrolet motor home chassis service guide" and found lots of websites that had info and/or referred to this guide. This is a pretty good manual, lots of illustrations and well laid out. It covers beyond just the basics, chapters on all the major systems. Finally I did a quick search on ebay and found one currently on auction. Its currently at $5 so you may want to try for that one, but please don't go crazy and bid this way up. $10-20 tops.

P-30 Manual
This is where I purchased my manual. Be sure to check your chassis VIN before you order. My 1981 28' Excella was built on a 1979 P-30 chassis. The manuals are often used but (in my case) in very good condition.
