Seat replacement

I am looking to replace the captains seats and have found some at a salvage yard. They are out of a 02 GM Avalance. I like them because they have the seat belts with shoulder harness' built in. (originals have only a lap belt) It appears the only mod I would hav to do is a larger plate on the pedestals to meet up with the larger footprint of the new seats. Does anyone have any advice on whether these are a good retro-fit seat or are there other's that would be better? Also, can these new seats be hooked up to the brake system to get the shoulder straps to operate properly? Any other considerations I should make?

As always, thanks in advance.

Jai

I don't much about the seat replacement but I would like to know how it goes for you, as I would like to replace my captains chairs in my 1978 28 Argosy. I can't stand the wobly feeling I get from my pedistals. Good Luck

Safety is the first concern when retrofitting seating. I did this in my old coach and love the leather seats I transplanted from a Chev van.

If you have to use a plate to adapt your new seat to the old base make sure that it is very stout. Seats take a lot of pressure...no I don't mean you're fat...but the g forces of everyday driving let alone panic stops, make for more force than most give credit.

I'm getting ready to replace the seats in the Airstream and am looking to one eBay vendor for the same solution as you. I want integral shoulder harness type seat belts.

I'll let you know how I fare next week.

Does any one have a good source for replacement seats? Peanut is in need of new ones. The originals are quite tired.....

locks

Hello jaiman
to get the brake lock to work I took a seat belt unit out of a chevy pickup truck. On the drivers side make sure you take the whole base. there is a little weight that locks up when it sences foward movement.( when you lift the belt roller cover you will see it) from brakeing. hope you can use this info. I learned a few things reading your threads on rebuilding your argosy..

Thanx, need to find the whole unit. The OEM seat wobbles a bit. Makes a long drive more effort, not too much comfort built in to these as well.
