Running roof A/C from generator power

With generator running, the roof A/C will not come on. I have to assume that the A/C is not receiving any 110 power from the generator. The roof A/C works great when I am plugged into an outside source of 110 volts, so I know the A/C is working. Any suggestions in trouble shooting this problem. After the fact, I attempted to check two 12 volt fuses on the Onan generator. I broke the fuse holder on the left fuse. Can I use an inline fuse holder and fuse in lieu of trying to replace the fuse holder that I broke.

Is anything 120 volt working when the generator is running?

Thanks for your question of wisdom. During the wee hours of my sleepless night it came to me that I had not checked anything else in the motorhome that works on 120. Thinking of this, I reminded myself that I have not connected my electric line (male) connection back into the female connection of the motorhome. This all happened when I unplugged from the outside 120 connection at my home. The next time I go to storage I will check this.

In reference to the fuse holder on the generator that I broke in trying to solve the power problem, do you have a suggestion for the repair of same?

Are you talking about the DC fuse or the AC circuit breaker on the genset? If it's the DC fuse you should be able to simply install an inline fuse holder and put in the same size fuse. If it's the AC circuit breaker then you may have to order a replacement breaker.

I bet that is your problem, you need to plug your cord into the generator outlet in the cord compartment. Those Argosy's did not have automatic transfer switches.

The fuse holder issue: If you just broke the twist off cap and the fuse holder itself is ok, you should be able to get a new cap. They are pretty common on a lot of electronic equipment. Just take your good one to an electronics place for reference and see if you can get one to match up.

The simplicity of the Argosy units is a double edged sword!

Make sure the breaker on the gen set is not tripped,also normal operation you can run both a/c at the same time when the gen is on and only one at a time on 30 amp shore power using the rotary selector switch.good luck,

You will need a genny(s) with at least 20, preferably 30 amp output

I ended up adding an automatic transfer switch and replaced the cord for the shore power. Now I have all new connections. The female end of my cord comes up through the hole underneath. This way all of my connections stay dry in the rain.

With this setup, the gen-set power will over-ride shore power.
