Removing the forward TV

I'm thinking of removing the TV set located between the driver's and passanger's seats, replacing it with a finished piece of oak (matching the cabinets), and mounting a GPS, plus other instruments/meters on the wood. Would welcome knowing if anyone else has done this, or something similiar, and how you did it.
I drive a 1999 Land Yacht 30'.
Thanks,
Mike

Only problem is it hard to reach from either seat while on the road.

Interesting idea, but we too wonder if it would be easy to reach from either seat. We removed our TV and built a box to fill the hole to make a cabinet, next step is putting a door on it.
Under the LandYacht motorhome section, if you find posts by 'Trident' he has posted pictures of the fine door he made for his, also how he mounted the new TV. We did a similar mod.
Enjoy your LandYact!

I like what you've done, and I've checked out Trident's photos. Think I'll make a mock-up to check sight lines from the driver's seat to an installed GPS. Now comes the rank newbie question; what's involved in removing the existing TV?

Hmmm, neither of us can remember, which isn't helpful except that it means it wasn't a memorable event! However our usual modus operandi is to pull on the item and see where it might be attached. Perhaps Trident can chime in here.
Trident also has a whole description on how to get the wires over to the other side of the coach.

This is what we did just to get rid of the old Tv. I had this Tv and with a little modification it fit. It works but it is only temporary. We have two other TVs so this is really not needed. My plans are to put a large ipad ( the one that has not been made yet) in that hole. I would then run backup, camera and navigation from it. I use a navigation program from my current ipad. Then the system could be run from my seat and my husband could see the screen. I have a small desk in front of my chair where I use a blue tooth key board. This way I would not have to reach it. Of course my husband thinks I might be having a pipe dream and he may be correct. Only time will tell.
