Removing Engine Cover in '81 28' Excella

Hello Experts: Question ... I want to grease the water pump as I have read it has a zerk fitting but I can't see it from below. My Excella has the Izusu Diesel.

I can lift the interior engine cover but still can't see it - thinking the entire shroud should be removed (lid and fixed back portion of box that the lid is hinged to) but mine is fully carpeted and don't see a way to remove it without pulling up carpet.

Before I pull up the carpet I just wanted to hear if I'm on the right track and if so are there particular bolts I should be looking for so I pull up less carpet?? Thanks and best, Dave

There used to be a radio and tape deck between the dash and dog house, engine cover. If it is there slide it toward the rear of the coach, disconnect the wires and remove the entire unit. Forward of the hinge is a metal panel about 8" deep held down by about ten 1/4" bolts. Remove the bolts and the entire dog house cover can be removed. If the radio unit has been removed and carpeted over you will have to pull the carpet back to reach the bolts.

There is a sticky thread at the beginning of the Classic Motorhome section that has manuals for your coach. If you have a problem I have them in pdf I can email you. Send me a PM with your email.

Cheers, Dan

The bolts Dan refers to are around the perimeter of the cover. I had the same question when I got my 310.
