Rear bed frame upgrade

Our rear double had lousy support under the 1/4 decking. I took off the underlayment and increased the support by adding 5 1x8 boards. Here's the old supports.

Here's a picture with the boards added. I then put back the 1/4" underlayment that was on top. Mattress felt much better!

I noticed a similar problem with my bed when I bought the coach. Additionally, I needed a new mattress, and thought I could fudge the width another inch or so in my favor, so needed a new platform anyway. I simply cut a new platform with 3/8" material rather than the light 1/4". The results were quite satisfactory.

I am ashamed to admit I never thought of additional supports. Either approach will work, but it would take some math to compute which saves more weight.

bed supports

my 310 mh has two rear twins which came to me from PO with pvc pipes added and work well as they "give" nicely under the mattress..
