Question Propane Detector

In my 1986 345 Motorhome is a Newtec Industries Gas Detection Unit Model PGD/F mounted in base of cabinet next to entrance. When the unit is turned on, it starts alarming and I can not find an adjustment screw to set. Does anyone have this unit with some type of literature on adjusting? If outdated (may be the original unit), anyone got any suggestions for a good replacement? Thanks for any input. Jim

I believe that the new(er) coaches have an atwood detector....but I'd have to check to be sure.

i dont think a propane detector is field calibrated. i trashed my last one same problem. ordered a new one from camping world.
not worth the risk even though you can smell propane in small amounts. my thought if you can smell it, by the time you decide it is propane it can explode and hurt you or your family. not an expensive item .

Agreed...kind of like a CO2 or smoke/fire detector....one of those things that after the fact seemed so small to buy and install.

Thanks for input and affirms my thoughts in replacing this unit. It didn't look like it was a new replacement so safe bet to replace. Atwood is a good reliable unit? Jim

I had a '03 in use for almost a year before trading in my coach for a new one. I think the new one also is the same. No complaints and I did test it and it caught it 100% of the time. Atwood makes a bunch of good stuff, but I'll check for sure in the new coach who made it and let you know tomorrow who the company is that built it.

Keep in mind that the new(er) ones are hard wired into the electrical system, not battery operated. I'm not sure the same on is avail as a battery operated. Is the one you are considering replacing hard wired or batt operated?

It is hard wired, 12VDC, .2 amps. Should not be too big of a problem to replace. I appreciate you (Silvertwinkie) for looking at yours.

Glad to be able to help. I got curious too, so I cracked open the coach this evening....here's what I have:

Atwood ProTechTor Series 2001

I took a look at the Atwood website and here is the URL for the exact same unit the factory (up until a few weeks ago and even possibly currently) has been installing in the new coaches off the line. I believe this is the same unit that was in my 2003 unit. It worked very well.
