Portable Air Compresser for Interstate

Is there a best choice for a small portable air compressor for tire pressure maintenance on the MB Sprinter? I am looking at a "VIAIR 450P Automatic Function Portable Air Compressor" that has a 100% duty cycle. It sells for $240 on Amazon Prime.

I had used this $40 one from Lowe's for about two years on my (now sold) Roadtrek Class B:

It is still working fine. I keep it in the truck now to use for my Airstream.

It works on 12V DC or 120VAC (I run it off the inverter when in the parking lot), fills way over the max psi I ran (80 psi rear) and has an auto shut off when the set psi is reached. I've found the built-in digital pressure gauge is pretty consistent with my digital gauge also. The duty cycle is 10m on, 10m off.

I carry a 120vAC compressor that I can power from the on-board generator (using the handy right quarter-panel exterior outlets) or from a campground's service pedestal. It puts out higher pressure and so takes less time to air up a tire than most 12v compressors I've used. Which makes a big difference when you've got seven tires to air up.

I got this one from Harbor Freight. I have not filled a tire with it, but I have topped off from 65# to 75# and it did it quickly. The combination of the electrical cord and the air hose will reach the tires on my 25 from the battery on the tongue.

There are probably too many factors to determine a "best". I use the ViAir and am very happy with it.

Yes, these are a bit pricey but are an extremely well built piece of kit as they are built for the Aussie Outback. The company also stands behind their products and will provide any parts you need to rebuild if one day that need should occur; although highly unlikely.

They can be mounted in the engine bay and have a variety of accessories to accomplish whatever you need it to do.

I have the twin cylinder 5 SCFM model running the air ride in my 310. Fairly quiet and fast. It will also run air tools.

Mine came with a Mercedes installed portable air compressor in a compartment in the passenger step well. It also has a tire sealant to fix a flat.

Agree there isn't such a thing as a best tire compressor. I have the Viair 400PA-RV and it works fine, does what it should. And it turns itself off when the nozzle is closed - don't have to go back to the motor to switch it off each time.

You can't beat VIAIR. Just check any off road web site and you will see VIAIR is a very popular compressor. Won't leave home without mine.

I have had the same model for a couple years - has worked perfectly. I use it all the time. The hose that comes with it is plenty long enough to go from the battery box to all 4 tires on our 25' FC

They do. But it's tiny, and takes bloody forever to air up a tire to 61psi.

I just bought a Viair 440P compressor off Amazon and I am extremely pleased with my choice. I had an old Black and Decker compressor that lasted for years but wouldn't air up the rear tires on my truck to 72 lbs. for towing. This Viair takes care of it quickly as well as the 4 D rated trailer tires I keep inflated to 62 lbs.

Vlair RV form the win X4. I also own two cheapies and one intermediate I got from Costco. Depends on your uses. The Costco does all except run large air tools. It was about $60 the Vlair was $200+

I use the Viair compressors on all the vehicles I put air ride on. Currently on my 68 Suburban with air ride, I have a pair plumbed into two 5 gallon tanks which not only airs up my Accuair air ride, but I added a port on one tank to plug in an air hose for tires..

These work great and can handle a ton of abuse..

Find yourself a friend, and purchase them in a twin pack to get an even better deal.. Most shops that deal with air ride offer decent pricing on the dual packs..
