Similar to my 2000 if I am not pulling toad, when I pulled ford ranger pu it dropped 2 mpg, will be interesting to see how my new Fit toad will do, but it will be near the end this month before we head out.

Just took our 26ft 2005 LY Gas on our first 500 mile trip since buying it last week. Got 10.5 - 11.5 avg at 60mph.

Just bought a 2011 F-350 Powerstroke, long bed, crew cab, lariat package, 3.55 rear end, (12k miles on it). Drove it from Houston to Laguna Beach, where I picked up an old 37 foot Spartan trailer (8000 lbs) that I then towed to Cape Cod. Got 12.5 mpg towing at 70-75 mph plus. If it wasn't for the rear view mirrors, you wouldn't know you were towing anything at all, up hill or down hill.

The truck is amazing! Incredibly smooth, comfortable and super quiet. Running from Boston to Green Bay the following week, got 17-18 mpg unloaded, and 12.5 coming home with another Spartan in tow. At 70 mph the thing is only turning 1700 rpm. If you can keep your foot out of it, I could easily see getting 20 mpg+.

I always wondered how a Pick-up could cost $60K??? The answer is, that you're getting something that rides like an S class Mercedes with 4WD, 8 foot bed, and a 400HP/700 FT LB Diesel!

2005 dodge Automatic with 3.73s, stock tires, and Cummins 5.9, 34' AS
14.3mpg for all miles towing and not
I did not reset the MPG gauge for many thousands of miles and that is the final mpg it settled at. It is mostly towing miles.

1988 345 Classic LE, gas 454. With 800cfm quadrajet 8 mpg not towing, between 5 and 6 towing. These are BEST numbers on long runs.
With 650cfm Holley it appears to be 9.2 to 9.5 mpg not towing. Have not yet taken the toad since new carb'.
Cruise control on 55mph max. Damn the torpedoes!

LimeyRich,
Guessing you've switched out the carbs? Anyone out there know what originally came with the carb'd 454?
Thanks, Derek

Switched carbs

'88 454 = 850 cfm Quadrajet. This year was a special emissions model.
Excellent carb'. But, by now any of that vintage need a proper overhaul.
Mine was toasted, and I needed A TPI, so switched to smaller Holley.
Bonus was an increase in MPG.

We always seem to get 12 mpg average. Sometimes we are towing, sometimes we are cruising in over 100 degree weather with the diesel generator running to power the A/C, and it uses the same fuel tank as the motorhome. The motor is a Cummins 12 valve 5.9 with an Allison 6 speed.

We bot our '95, Classic 36' pusher diesel in '09 and have put 15,000 miles on it. It averages 11.2-12 MPG. I've just installed a Banks system so it should improve a bit on our next trip.
