Perfect Paint Scheme For '92

Here's the big question: A bare '92 coach gets repainted how? Stock?
All silver? Blue stripe? Probably no woodgrain. The '90-era silver, grey, maroon and black looks fussy and complicated to me. The '95-'96 swoosh stripes? NASA stripes? Oscar Meyer ? I have, I think, one of very few (12 maybe) '92 30' coaches. It's in really excellent shape, everything works well, and it cost $117,000 in '92, so it has every widget known to man except solar (P.O. took it with) and sat. tracking (ditto.) Am I shooting myself in the foot by doing a "custom" paint scheme? Would you pay the same for a '92 with a blue stripe? Oh yeah, its got plastic rear and basement doors.

A good paint job on a 30 foot motorhome will run at least $6000.00, plus any special graphics.

Expect to pay considerably more if you want the stripes to be painted with Duponts "Chromalusion" paint.

Chromalusion changes color as you walk by it in the sunlight.

One of the colors changes from a copper to a purple, as you view it from different angles.

Very different, you bet.

why paint? Is the clearcoat peeling?
If not why not do a re- striping, and leave the aluminum alone.
A good wax and polish of the clear coat will shine it up nicely also.

If its a different look you ar eafter, the stripe will give it that. I hated the wood grain on mine, and was very happy with the modernized look after I redidi it. I will repaint the lower grey next spring, and the upper black stripe alont eh rrofline will be redone when I am able to find a suitable replacement.

Yeah, the clearcoat is bad and the paint isn't really salvagable either (and wasn't great to start with). I've found a soda blaster who'll take everything off. Then what? Basically a blank canvas. The lower belly has to be painted, as the doors and some panels are plastic, but from the top of the storage doors up, the aluminum can be whatever I want.

A local truck place has an adhesive clear primer that goes under the clearcoat that they use on polished aluminum and stainless tankers. Should eliminate the factory peeling problem for a long time.

I'm leaning toward the '95 -'96 simple swoosh stripe-type thing.

I've got my '87 pretty well stripped (except for the bottom grey area), and I kind of like the bare aluminum.

If you're going to take all the paint off anyway, you might want to wait to make a final decision only after you've had a chance to see your unit bare.

It truely is the same as a paint canvas, and when it is bare aluminum it is MUCH easier to get a mental picture of what it will look like when the paint is finally applied.

I tried to imagine (and computer image) mine with various paint systems (or bare), and there is nothing like seeing the actual stripped unit to jump start the imagination.

Paint place says "put the clear on, take it home and add color later." Little decisions like - grey around the windshield - earlier ones without, new ones with. What if we paint the lower panels and the trunk lid silver to match the aluminum? My main concern is not to do something so personal that the next guy doesn't want it.
