orange barrel club

Ok I joined Brett as a member of the "orange barrel club".
Clipped one or two that were sticking too far into the lane I was in, and busted the bottom of the awning arm mount off. Sheared the bolt that held the arm to the bracket. No other damage, and thankfully no ALUMINUM damaged.
Just have to live with feeling like an idiot for a day or so.

Lousy start to what turned out to be a great mountain weekend.
Campers at the place we stayed all gathered around to gawk at our motorhome. Many nice newer ones there, but none like the Airstream.

Alan,

I welcome you with open arms. Glad to know that the barrels are after all of us. Now you have an excuse ( as I do) to get rid of the awning and get a Zip-Dee . If you need a parts source let me know I have someone who can order you the individual perts needed. Sorry to hear of the damage, but glad it was minor.

Just don't tell Fred, you will never hear the end of it.
Glad you didn't have any skin damage!

I knew Alan was going to slip up one of these days! Here's a clean cut, well spoken, mechanically inclined guy, and Internet savy. Too good to be true. (I threw out the TOG incident as a camp host issue) If we ever caravan, I'll make sure to follow Brett and Alan so they can clear the way!

Do you know how nervous I get when I am driving through those barrels? I'll never look at those barrels as inocent highway markers again. Forget stationary....I think they walk out in front of us in some new form of terrorism. I think they have an axe to grind with our classic MH's! Maybe they a jealous of our MH's mobility!

Brett-

New awning parts as upper and lower mounts for a Carefree? Mine was off when I got it, I have the roller tube and arms. Was going to make new mounts, and I am sure from the condition it needs springs, etc. but if you have a source it would be a lot quicker.

John,

Mine was an A&E model. In the 70's it seems that it was a dealer installed option so there is a mix of brands installed.

Here is a Link to Carefree. you can search for a dealer from this site.

Sorry if I got your hopes up....

Alan,
I left this past Thurs. morning for a 3 day deer hunt and drove 97 miles to where I was camping. On the way, they were rebuilding a bridge one side at a time so it was down to one lane with stoplights at each end and a timed interval. Now the tricky part was the fact that they concrete barriers on both sides of the area I had to go through. I had maybe one ft. either side of the trailer and I felt it was a tight squeeze. I felt better when I went back through on Sun. on the return trip.

It's a bit frustrating, because on the way home from NC over the summer a partial truck tire was rolling down the lane I was in, between two concrete temporary barriers, and a semi on my left.
No where to go so I had to roll over it. It hit the right exhaust pipe, bent it back pretty good.
So now two incidents of road hazards.
Hopefully I can fix the awning arm. The exhaust pipe had to be replaced.
Oh , well at least no one was hurt, and like Peter says, the skin was untouched.

1) I am obligated to give you a de-merit for thread drift. This is the 'orange barrel club' thread!

2) Is that your new paint job? The wood is gone? (one de-merit for me for aiding thread drift) Nice job!

That's one that won't walk out in front of you again. Only 12 billion to go.

Peter- love that picture. Its a hoot.
Fred- yes the wood grain is gone but not forgotten(there is plenty out there to see)
I am really pleased with the new look, and have gotten some nice comments from folks in the campgrounds.

My daughter had a orange cone incident yesterday and other than being embarassed there was no damage.

She didn't think her incident was funny until she read all above then especially Peter's pic. in post #10.

Thanks for changing her embarassment into laughter.
