I heard recently that N.A.S.A. has decided not to retire the Airstream Astrovan when shuttle flights end in late 2010. They will continue to use it for the new Constellation Program when the U.S. manned spaceflights resume in 4 or 5 years. This should be good news for Airstream lovers everywhere.
I think that it's great news that this vehicle, used to transfer our astronauts from the suit-up facility to the launch pad, is so valued and revered, that it will make the next giant leap in the U.S. Manned Space Program.

Thanks for that link Kevin.
I heard this report on one of the local Cleveland news shows. Although I am hoping that this news is entirely true, if not, I am rooting for DanB to acquire it. I would love to see it cruising around Oberlin on any given day. Perhaps I would try thumbing a ride if I saw Dan The Astrovan Man my way.

The Astrovan looked spiffy this morning on CNN in HD! They must have given her a good wash and wax for the cameras!

I am glad to hear they plan on keeping it. It is an icon.
