Isuzu engine info
Below is an exchange of correspondence between myself and Dave Seeley of Isuzu Engines. I am posting it with his permission as an addition to the motorhome database.

Greetings.
I hope you can find someone to answer this question for me as I have been
unable to get an answer via any of the Internet forums I've tried. I am
considering buying a 1982 motorhome with an Isuzu turbo diesel engine. I
believe the engine type is 6BD1. It is a 345 c. in.
Question: Are these engines subject to cavitation (cylinder wall pitting) if
a coolant additive is not used? My '94 Ford F-350 requires such an additive,
which is why I am concerned.
Thank you.

Mr. Potter,
Isuzu does not recommend a coolant additive like your are thinking, the only
thing Isuzu recommends is that a very low silicate level long life coolant
be used. This engine is a dry sleeved cromard liner type not wet sleeved.
You are correct the engine is a 6BD1 natural aspirated engine. Airstream
turbocharged the engine for high altitude compensation.
Hope this answers your questions.
Thank you,
Dave
