fuel filter

I am trying to locate the fuel filter that is sup-
posed to be in the rear of the 325 MH. Has anyone
out there replaced the filter on a 325 or a 345 MH? A/S Service says its on the top of the fuel
tank and therefore the tank has to be dropped in
order to get at the filter. I prefer to do these
things myself but dropping the fuel tank seems to be a little more than I care for. I have changed the filter midway between front and back and also
the one at the carburator, but would sure like to
get at the one in the rear that A/S says is their.

For anyone out there with A/C and Heater control
problems in the dash. I had some problems with
mine so I took it appart and discovered its actually a chrysler control. I went to the local
junk yard and found parts in middle 1980,s dodge
vans. Send me a question if you have any on this
as I sure have been thru the ringer on this part.

Thanks ODD

I THINK the filter they are talking about is the sock inside the tank. I don't remember seeing anything else up there that looked like a fuel filter.

fuel filter

Terry,

Thanks for the reply. Two weeks ago I decided to
drop the tank. There is no Filter at the tank of
any sort. The pick up tube doesn't have a sock
either. Just the steel line extending into the
tank along with the pick up tube for the Generator
There is no electric fuel pump either. All of my
paper work says there would be a fuel filter and
an Electric fuel pump. Sorry their was neither!

I installed an Electric fuel pump at the rear of the bus frame. Carter fuel pump and a fuel filter/water separator combo. Took lots of time
but turned out real good.

I mounted a switch on the dash for the pump to be
used only when I decide to use it.Per Andys Suggestion.

It is not a very difficult job to drop the tank.
Three band bolts and a hydraulic floor jack is all
I used. I had emptyed the fuel from the tank from
the drain hole. I was down to less than 10 gallons. I had all ready replaced the fuel filter that is mounted midship along the frame.

If any one has questions about this set up feel
free to ask questions.

ODD,
Did you run across any filter for the generator? All that I can find out is that the electric fuel pump on generator MAY have a screen type filter in the pump, depending on which manual you read. I have a 86 345 MH. Jim

fuel filters

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the replay to my fuel question.
I went out and double checked for a fuel filter
on the Generator. I do know that there was not
any filter at the tank! So I traced the fuel line this PM and there is a small in-line filter
just inside the wall of the generator compartment.

There very well may be a filter on the electric fuel pump somewhere.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks ODD

Thanks Orland. I will probably tear into electric fuel pump this weekend to see if a filter exists there as per one of the Onan manuals. An Onan dealer in New Orleans parts department did not have a listing for a filter but all the troubleshooting talks about cleaning the filter in pump, also no need for an inline!!!!!!! Will let you know what I find for your info. Thanks again. Jim

when i took apart my ONAN pump, the screw on cap was tough to get off, but inside is the plastic screen filter. I have a nh series if that is helpful. My AS is an 1982. The filter had a small bit of crud in it, not much though. I cleaned it thouroughly and reinstalled it as it seemed to be ok. I still have a minor stalling issue, though and the fule lines look recent as well, so not sure if I should be replacing them, in addition to re-cleaning the carb.
I have replaced spark plugs, but not the rest of the ignition items yet.
Mine runs for hours sitting still but stalls on turns, and hard stops.

What Fuel Pump Filter?

When I took the bottom off of the fuel pump on the Onan to check the filter, I found it was not plugged, 'cause there was no filter!

Installed an inline in the Generator compartment.

Hope to have a new Carb installed this weekend.

Peter's Honda is starting to look better and better.

fuel filter(generator)

Thanks Jim for the reply again

Let me know what you find when you get the Fuel Pump apart. Even if it has one,.. I would sure
consider putting an inline filter in the system
as its much easier to see and change. Just
a thought.

Thanks ODD

ALANSD, sounds like a bad float level adjustment. If it blows black smoke when it stalls out, the fuel level is probably too high. Otherwise, maybe too low.

Check in a service manual for the correct setting. Should be pretty easy. (Of course, I don't have one, so how would I know how easy it is!?!)
