Interesting combo. A trailer grafted to a GMC front end with an Airstream nose. Try to explain that to the parts guy when he wants to know what year make or model. I would be concerned regarding safety as the trialers were not designed to be occupied during travel. Looks cool, and is low to the ground for sure.

Window layout as well as the fact that the model year did not come with dual rear wheels. Also the rear shot shows a trunk door, and that was not available either.

Unhappy $ 17000

Hi Bret G.
Well I guess it is one of those things...U either kn, or U don't...ME personally...I hav'nt a clue...LOL, Would it be a GOOD buy at $17000, or would it be GOOD-BYE...to hard earned money... I notice the AS/RV's sell for a LOT of money, why is that, putting aside build quality, etc:, are they in demand ?, or do people just like to have one ?..What I have noticed is that U Guys ACTUALY use your R/Vs and A/Ss, that's GOOD, over here people tend to STORE the CLASSIC stuff away, and only use them on SUNNY DAYS...that is if they can be bothered to drag themselves OUT of the PUB...LOL, ( We DON'T get a LOT of SUNNY DAYS over here ) I love the OLDE stuff, and UNUSUAL too, that's why we love the Sat nite cruise at Old Town, Kissimmee, I think the people who DO use the VEHICLES deserve a big pat on the back...
If U got it...SHOW IT !!! ..... ~<o><~>~ .
Thank's for the info, I learn something EVERYDAY !!!...
I guess you gotta realy know what U doin, to get a GREAT R/V, at the right price, ...I once bought a car that looked spot-on, at my price, ....anyhow, that's ANOTHER NIGHTMARE....
B-GOOD, take care...Chris.....

Chris,

You hit the nail on the head regarding Airstreamers using their RV. I have been a mamber of the WBCCI for 10 years and the folks I have met have been the most active RVers that I have ever seen. As to price, it is kind of like the in demand collector car market. There are gems and basket cases, but that just means that there is someting for everyone when they purchase one! Good condition units sell fast and for a fair price when you consider that the used units do not depreciate much. And the value is HUGE when you compare it to not only new airstreams but even new SOB models. Lastly there is the disease that afflicts us all, AKA Aluminitus. Once you have it you have a real hard time curing it. The only way I know of to keep it under control is to have an Airstream close by so when you need a fix you can get one.

Cool Aluminitus Nutti Rivitus...

HI there Thenewkid64...
I totaly UNDERSTAND the dedication U Guys suffer from, it IS no doubt a reconised symdrome amoungst a certain group of caring people, I beleive it catches when one person caresses a certain type of BOBY, usualy one with PLENTY of curves...and naturaly made of ALUMINIUN...what happens is the metal gives off a certain CHARISMA...a posative feeling of " GOT TO HAVE ONE "...it can be a little adictive, sometimes, a BOND is NOT unusual between man and machine, women also suffer from this charming condition, ONLY a certain kind of person has the ability to attract this condition, there are NO rules, when one is stroking a candidate, you will know almost right away if the machine IS the one for you...the CORRECT term for this, I was lead to beleive is... ALUMINITUS NUTTI RIVITUS.... now there is NO need at all to panic or try to fight it, there is NO known cure, but a WRIST BAND of the same metal works WONDERS...I heard on the TIN VINE....
OK, what is SOB...is it for ( silly old bloke )...lmao.
Once again, it's been a pleasure, take care all...Chris.....

Chris,

SOB in Airstream circles means "Some Other Brand".

Cheers,

Jim- Thanks for the link. Those ultra-vans, seem like they would line up to their name, being a light, fairly responsive van, rather than a motorhome, per se.
Having had a 1965 Corvair myself, I can attest to the reliability of the engines, and the ease of maintenance, although I did go thru a fair amount of oil seal o rings, which was a common failure.
Anyone ever drive one of those Ultras? Just curious....
