Engine will not start - LP Gas detector?
My engine has always started with no problem.
Today it fired up and immediately shut down.
It appears that it is not getting any gas. (The tank is almost full.)
Is there any kind of emergency shut off that could have caused this? The lp gas detector was going off at the same time, but no gas fumes of any kind were noticable to me. I have installed new carpet recently and suspect that may be the cause. I do not trust the lp gas detector as it has gone off a couple of times since the new carpet was installed. The on / off switch does not move so I cannot turn it off. I just wait til it clears up.
Where is the fuel pump? I guess I will start there.

There is mechanical pump on the right front of the engine, electric pump at the rear near the fuel tank. Pull your air cleaner and pump the accelerator, you should see gas squirt out. If it does the pumps are working.

No gas squirts out which is why I figure I have a fuel pump issue or a blockage. Where exactly is the electric pump? Inside or outside access?

Must both pumps be working for any gas to arrive at the carb?

a small suggestion
When these type things happen suddenly and you are not familar with the system, it pays to trace the fuel line from carb to tank. You might be surprised to find the PO shade treed something. I have found extras like clogged fuel filters, improper fuel line repairs, and even an onan fuel filter wired in.
You may be able to hear the electric fuel pump in the tank by listening, maybe holding a steel rod up to the tank that will transmit sound.
How does the gas look and smell , fresh and clear? An additive might help before a tank drop would be necessary if the problem is in the tankand you can get the fuel flowing.

No start on Engine
On my 345 the engine will start and run for a short time even with no electricity to the rear fuel pump, which is not internal to the tank, but mounted just forward of the tank.
The mechanical fuel pump, on the foreward curbside of the engine, will pull fuel through the electric pump, as Peter indicated, but not enough to maintain speed.
A total absence of fuel in the carb could be caused by a clogged carburator filter. This filter is internal to the carb, located at the fuel line inlet fitting.
Of course, there could be blockage anyplace in the system.
If it were me, I would validate rear electric pump performance (changing all filters and deteriorated rubber as lines are separated to confirm fuel flow), and work forward.
All this takes a while, and be prepared for some surprises.
