Bike Rack System?
Hello everyone, I'm looking for a bike rack system that can work with my hitch, but also allow me to open my rear doors on my Interstate. Any suggestions on what works best? I've been looking at the Yakima Swingdaddy Bike Rack. It can swing the rack system out to allow you to open the rear cargo door. Does anyone know if that's a good design or is there a better solution for our Airstream Interstates? Thank you in advance. Enjoy your spring and happy travels!!

I have a bike rack that allows me to open the rear doors if there's no bike on the rack because the vertical post swings down, but it won't allow you to open the rear doors with bikes on it.
It's a Swagman XTC2.

My Thule rack swings to the side to allow the rear doors to open with bikes in place. I think it is the Revolver model. Works great for us!

I could say something about "Can't drive an Eddie Bauer," but I'm trying very hard to be a better man than that. I don't want the thread to turn into yet another a 'motorhomes vs. trailers' debate.

We have a 2004 with a ladder on the left side. Will these racks work with a ladder?

We use an Airstream Fiamma bike rack on our Airstream and had one on our VW Camper. They are top-notch, aluminum, and hold the bikes solid. They also make one for Mercedes vans and that's the one I would recommend based on our experience:

Bike rack solution
I have run in to same issue and I found that the swing away racks do not swing far enough and you still cannot open the door. My solution was a tilt down unit made by Thule Helium Aero. It is a 2 bike system but it is the only one I found that will work. It tilts down and you can safely open both doors but you still have to climb around a little. Pricey but works like a charm!

I hate racks that hang the bike. They also allow the wheels to rotate and the bottoms to swing into your van. The front wheel swings to and fro.
Many bikes don't have a crossbar to hang from.
When I come back from riding I'm tired and don't want to mess around to much with picking up the bike.
I have this rack.
http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/produc...16xtr-_-916xtr
It's a platform and will fit most bikes. It folds up and also tilt down to allow the doors to open on an SUV.
It has locks built in.
