From 1995 to 2006 Airstream installed roof top solar systems in all motorhomes as standard equipment on the diesels and optional on gas models. A basic inverter was included for the front TV and a larger inverter was optional to power other appliances.
My 1997 Landyacht came with a 5 watt solar panel that's designed only as a trickle charger for the 2 coach batteries. Its mounted next to the frig vent and about the size of a laptop. The control panel is a read only display that shows when charging is ongoing and gives the charge level of the coach batteries.
The power converter was replaced in 2015 and appears to function normally by controlling the input power from either
12v, shore power, solar, or generator.
My question is has anyone performed upgrades to this existing system by adding large solar panels and higher capacity coach batteries? If so did it require upgrades of the control panel too? Any info would be appreciated.
